Valenti Modified Racing Series This Sunday at Thompson

Thompson, CT — The Valenti Modified Racing series will be the featured division this Sunday afternoon, May 20th, at the Thompson International Speedway. The VMRS has become one of the most popular touring series in the northeast and always brings a great crowd and a great race to Thompson.

VMRS racers will qualify for their 75 laps of green flag racing through heats. Their finishes in the qualifying races will determine their starting spots in the main event. Heat races have been a popular feature in the VMRS program.

The defending VMRS champion, Chris Pasteryak, will head the field of open-wheel Modifieds at Thompson which is the largest and fastest track on the VMRS schedule. The pressure, however, is on two-time champion, Jon McKennedy. In the first two VMRS races, McKennedy has been victorious. He won at the Waterford Speedbowl and at Monadnock and will try to make it three in a row when the VMRS rolls into Thompson.

Jack Bateman, the founder of the VMRS, has decided to vacate the seat of his potent # 17 Modified and has turned over the driving assignment to Somers, CT driver Todd Owen. Owen is no stranger to the Thompson Speedway after competing for several seasons in a Super Late Model before moving to the VMRS. His first VMRS win came at Thompson in September of 2008.

In addition to the VRMS, the May20th event will include Thompson’s own NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Super 6” divisions. The exciting Sunoco Modifieds will compete in a 30-lap dash with the Late Models going 25. Twenty lap mains will be in order for the Thompson Modifieds, the LKQ/Keystone Modifieds and the XTRA/MART Limited Sportsman. Monster Mini Stocks will race for 15 laps.

Grandstands will open Sunday morning, May 20th, at 11 AM. Practice will start at Noon. Qualifying for all divisions is slated for a 2:45 PM start. The seven feature event races will follow the qualifying heats.
