Thursday Night Thompson Thunder Kicks Off This Week

THOMPSON, CT — The much anticipated return to Thursday night racing at Thompson International Speedway gets underway this coming Thursday night, May 31st. at 6 PM. Thursday Night Thompson Thunder, better known as TNTT, will feature six divisions of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions in qualifying races and feature events.

Thursday night races have become a mainstay at Thompson and have proven to be very popular with both fans and competitors. The race program is run virtually non-stop. The track has set a target of 9:30 PM to have the show over. This allows fans to enjoy a fun night out and still be able to be home at an early hour.

The NASCAR “Super 6” divisions provide fans with exciting, wheel-to-wheel competition week in and week out. Many of the best drivers in New England compete each week at the high banked, ultra fast 5/8th mile oval. These racers thrill fans with their amazing driving talents and daring moves as they seek the glory that comes in victory lane.

At the top of the bill will be the track’s Sunoco Modified division. Ryan Preece has visited victory lane twice this year. He won on Icebreaker weekend and again on May 20th. As a result, he holds the points lead over Kerry Malone, Ted Christopher, Todd Ceravolo and Woody Pitkat. Preece will be looking to make it three in a row when the Sunoco Modifieds take to the track for their 30-lap main event.

Marc Palmisano is a co-leader in the Late Model division’s points standings following his strong performance at the Icebreaker and his win on May 20th. Tommy O’Sullivan shares the top spot on the points podium due to his season-opening win. Other drivers in the hunt are Mike Scorzelli, Woody Pitkat and Damon Tinio.

Other drivers holding the top spots in their respective divisions are Scott Sundeen (Xtra/Mart Limited Sportsman), Jon Lowinski-Loh (Thompson Modifieds), Cam Mc Dermott (LKQ/Keystone Lite Modifieds) and Eric Bourgeois (Monster Mini Stocks). The LKQ/Keystone Lite Modifieds are the newest division in Thompson’s “Super Six” NASCAR racing divisions.

Grandstands open and practice begins at 4 PM. The first qualifying race is slated for 6 PM and feature events for all six NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will follow. Once again, the TNTT program will be fast-paced and fans can look for the race program to be over at an early hour.
