Waterford Speedbowl Saturday 9/1 Thunder on the Sound make-ups announced
Five of nine races completed before rain; remaining races postponed to later dates
Waterford, CT — This past Saturday’s “Thunder on the Sound” event at Waterford Speedbowl was interrupted by Mother Nature on more than one occasion, forcing the postponement of four of the nine events scheduled for the program. Rain began falling for the second time during the event just nine laps into the 16th annual Budweiser Modified Nationals SK Modified® 150. The additional track drying efforts required combined with the late hour forced management to postpone the remaining races. The SK-150, along with feature races for the Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models, Street Stocks and Mini Stocks were unable to be completed. Those events will all be made-up in the coming weeks, making September an action-packed month at the shoreline oval.
“Unexpected weather situations like Saturday aren’t good for anyone involved – for the fans, competitors, or race track promoters alike” offered Speedbowl owner and promoter Terry Eames. “It’s very important to deliver our fans and competitors all the races we outlined. Unfortunately we were too deep into Saturday’s race program to rain-check, however the modified September event schedule we’ve come up with provides the same amount of races and pricing our 2012 schedule originally outlined. The calendar is against us, limiting our available options but we’ve got some great points battles and want to do our best to see they are settled on the track.”
The completion of the 16th annual Budweiser Modified Nationals SK-150 will take place on Saturday, September 15th along with the make-up Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model 30-lap feature from Thunder on the Sound. The remaining 141-laps of the SK-150 will join twin 30-lap Late Model features plus the Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Legend Cars on that date.
On Saturday, September 22nd twin 35-lap races for the SK Modifieds® will highlight the racing program. In addition, the SK Light Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and X-Cars will all be in action as originally scheduled for the night.
Saturday, September 29th will be highlighted by twin 25-lap features for each the Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions. Their make-up features from Thunder on the Sound join the night’s originally scheduled races included for the SK Modifieds®, Late Models, Legend Cars and Bandoleros.
Prices for all the adjusted event schedules above with additional feature races will remain the same including the SK-150, with no increase in admission.
Next Saturday, September 8th will see the Valenti Modified Racing Series return to the shoreline oval for its second and final visit of the 2012 season. That event, a make-up from last month’s “Wings & Wheels” event, joins the night’s regularly scheduled NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program.
