Alexandra and Ryan Fearn Ready to Tackle Stafford’s DARE Stock Division in 2013

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway’s DARE Stock division will welcome two new members from the Wild Thing Kart Series to its ranks for the 2013 season. The sister and brother combination of 16-year old Alexandra and 14-year old Ryan Fearn will make the move up to Stafford’s rookie division after racing in the Monday night Wild Thing Kart Series for the past 8 seasons.

Alexandra Fearn makes the move into the DARE Stock division from the Senior Outlaw division. 2012 was Alexandra’s first season in the adult Senior Outlaw division and she was the youngest and only female competitor in the division. Alexandra scored 1 win this season and she finished 4th in the Senior Outlaw points standings.

“I can’t wait to get started racing with adults,” said Alexandra. “The Senior Outlaw division is an adult divison, so I think that will help me out this year in the DARE Stock division.”

“I’m pretty exicted to get started, it’s going to be like Christmas,” said Ryan. “I’ve always wanted to race at Stafford and race Late Models with my cousin Tommy, but I know I’ll be in the DARE Stock division for at least a couple of years.”

Both Ryan and Alexandra come to the DARE Stock division having experienced success in the Wild Thing Karts. Alexandra has won in every division she has raced in and has over 10 career wins, while Ryan has over 20 victories and he was the 2009 Tiger A Champion. While both Alexandra and Ryan have enjoyed success, they have modest goals for themselves once the 2013 season gets underway.

“This will be my first time out on the big track, so I think I’ll be a little nervous,” said Alexandra. “I want to get experience behind the wheel, get a good feel for the car, keep the car in one piece, and earn the respect of my fellow competitors.”

“I think in the beginning, I’ll be a little nervous with getting used to the boundaries of the DARE car,” said Ryan. “When I went from the Tigers to the Junior Outlaw, those were two different size karts, so I have an idea of what to expect with a bigger car. The DARE car is going to be different for sure, I just have to adapt to it. On the optimistic side, I know I have the skills to go around cars and not through them, so mostly I’d like to get used to the car and get my bearings and get at least one race win this season.”

If Alexandra or Ryan run into trouble, they have a great source of information in their cousin Tom Fearn, who is also a 3-time Stafford track champion.

“It’s a big help to have Tommy giving us advice,” said Alexandra. “He is my main source of advice and he’s always giving me good tips like I have to stay patient behind the wheel. I’m not a very patient person, so that is something that I’m going to have to work on.”

“Tommy is a good source for advice,” said Ryan. “I worked on his car a little last year and I think that knowing the car will only help when I come off the track and I have to give my dad feedback on what the car is doing.”

Alexandra and Ryan Fearn will begin their 2013 DARE Stock odyssey with the 42nd Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler on April 26-28.
