Boston Marathon Tribute to Open Boston Louie Memorial Race

Modified Stars Set To Shine In Special SK-Type Race

Seekonk, MA — A tribute to the Boston Marathon with a special opening ceremony will highlight this Sunday’s 16th annual ‘Boston Louie Memorial Classic’ at Seekonk (MA) Speedway. The June 2nd race program will feature Midgets, SK-Type Modifieds, Pro-Four Modifieds, and Mini-Stocks.

Race producer Gary Sagar has invited ‘Team Hoyt’ for the opening ceremonies. Rick Hoyt, a quadriplegic with cerebral palsy, and his father Dick, will participate in pre-race festivities bringing their “Yes You Can” message to the special event.

Since 1977, the father and son team with Dad pushing and Rick leading the way, have completed over 1,000 races including marathons, duathlons, and triathlons.

Team Hoyt completed their 1000th race in the 2009 Boston Marathon.

Members of their Boston Marathon team and others, who will circle the 1/3-mile oval carrying American Flags during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner, will join the Hoyt’s. The Seekonk Fire Dept and Seekonk Police Honor Guard will also be part of the kick-off program.

Donations to onefundboston.org will be accepted and forwarded.

The Northeastern Midget Association Midgets and NEMA Lites will compete in 29-lap feature races honoring the legendary Boston Louie Seymour. Seymour campaigned race cars numbered 29, successfully, all over the United States.

A stellar lineup of modified race drivers is expected to compete in the 75-lap feature race. ROC Champion, Matt Hirschman, of Northampton, PA, already a three-time winner this season, Whelen Modified Tour stars Ted Christopher, of Plainville, CT, Ryan Preece, of Berlin, CT, Woody Pitkat of Stafford, CT, Brothers Keith and Jeff Rocco, and Waterford Speedbowl aces Jeff Pearl and Tyler Chadwick, headline the list of entries.

The Pro-Four Modifieds of New England will do battle in a 25-lap feature with the popular Northeast Mini-Stock Tour set for a 50-lap shootout.

Legendary Bentley Warren will serve as Grand Marshall for the program that starts at 4:00 PM. Speedway gates open at 2:00 PM
