John Peters Makes Comeback with Fourth Thursday Win of 2013
Scarborough, ME — With just two races remaining in the VIP Thursday Thunder Series at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, it is down to a battle between Matt Bourgoine and Evan Beaulieu. The two longtime Legends Cars rivals were separated by just 46 points going into Thursday night’s event. For the rest of the field, it was their chance to improve on their point’s position, as third through twelfth is very close, and also a chance to get into Victory Lane, as only three drivers have through seven races. With 20 cars in the field, both Bourgoine and Beaulieu, along with Tylar Braunschweig would have to come from the rear of the field after their top three finishes last week, setting up for a very interesting race.
Longtime Legends Cars driver Anthony Pagliarulo, driving a rebuild Sedan for the first time, started on the pole with the 19 of Kevin Girard Jr. on the outside. Pagliarulo lead the first lap, but it didn’t take long before the 399 of Bob Weymouth made the move to the inside and took the race lead. Weymouth and Girard ran side by side for the first few laps of the race before a caution came out for the 49 of Pete Cannel going for a spin. On the restart, Weymouth got the start, but the 51 of John Peters and the 59 of Reid Lanpher were able to drive to the inside and grab the race lead. Lanpher and Peters put on a thrilling race for the lead, until the races final caution came out with ten laps to go for the 33 of Alan Smith getting spun around in turn three.
On the ensuing restart, Peters was able to get the jump on Lanpher, as it was a freight train of cars behind him battling for positions. At the finish after two weeks plagued with problems, Peters bounced back with his fourth Thursday Thunder win of the season! Weymouth finished second with Girard rounding out the podium. Lanpher had to settle for fourth while Bourgoine rallied to finish fifth from the rear of the field.
With just one race to go in the VIP Thursday Thunder Series, Matt Bourgoine holds an all but insurmountable lead of 54 points over Beaulieu in the battle for the championship. It’s still a tight battle behind him however, and everyone wants to finish off the season with a check in the win column. Racing will get under way at 7PM on Thursday night, August 22nd. Tickets are just $4 and kids 12 and under are free!
