Bourgoine & Hammar Will Contend For Title at Oxford Plains

With just one race remaining in one of the country’s premier Legends Cars series, the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour has had a great championship battle throughout the season. Matt Bourgoine of Newport, Maine leads Pembroke, New Hampshire’s Ryan Hammar by 13 points going into this weekend’s event at Oxford Plains Speedway. The two drivers have dominated on the Tour this season, combining to win seven of the 13 races so far.

“We blew our engine last time we were at Oxford and that put us behind quite a bit,” third year driver Hammar said about the title fight, “If that hadn’t happen we’d be in good position but it’s just going to be a matter of how far Bourgoine can get through the field, we will just go for the win and let the rest play out.”

After his second place finish in the last race at Wiscasset Speedway, Bourgoine will have to come from the rear of the field on Saturday afternoon, giving Hammar the leg up going into the feature as his heat finish will determine his feature starting spot. Bourgoine is no stranger of fighting from the rear of the field, and has won doing so a few times this year alone.

“There are so many things that can happen in a race that I really don’t want to say how good our chances are,” Bourgoine said of defending his title, “All I’m going to do is focus on a good race and pray for the best!”

The two drivers at the top of standings aren’t the only ones in a tight point’s race. Just 91 points separate fifth place Alan Smith from eighth place Terry Kirk in points chase, and finishing in the top five would mean a lot to any of the drivers. Combine that with many of the drivers hungry for a win and it will equal into a thrilling final race of the season on Saturday night.

The action will kick off at 1:00PM on Saturday, as the Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour will join the Pro All Stars Series North season finale at Oxford Plains Speedway. Tickets are just $20, and kids 12 and under are $5. Come out to Oxford, Maine for a thrilling day of racing and see some of the best Legends Cars racing in the country.

About NELCAR

NELCAR, Inc. started in 1994 as New England Legends led by the sole dealer for the southern cars in the north, Gary Dunphy. The beginnings of the group were small with Gary selling a handful of cars to a few fo rmer racers in the state of Maine.

In 2010, a new page was turned in Nelcar. Not only did Terry Kirk take over the newly renamed New England Legends Sales & Service from John Gibbs, but it was also the first time the Tour ran at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, on the newly configured quarter mile track in turns one and two on the morning of the September Sprint Cup Series race. Anthony Flannery went down in the record books as the first winner of the prestigous event.

NELCAR, Inc has brought together men, women, new, and former racers from all forms of the sport including motorcycles and stock cars. The atmosphere at the races is still open and welcoming where the drivers may compete ferociously on the track but will still join each other for “Pit Parties” and dinner. If you are interested in joining this staple of New England racing and being a part of its diversity please Contact NELCAR.
