Modified Standout Elected To Plainville Sports Hall Of Fame
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Owner of 15 NASCAR titles, Ted Christopher’s distinguished career will be recognized by his Connecticut hometown with induction in the Plainville Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday Oct. 5.
Christopher, a 1976 graduate of Plainville High School, is one of six individuals that will be honored by the Plainville Sports Hall of Fame at its annual banquet.
Best known simply as “TC,” Christopher’s NASCAR career has been highlighted by the 2001 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship and the 2008 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title. Mixed in before, between and after those two crowns are 12 track championships and a regional title.
Christopher earned his first track title at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway in 1987. Twenty-five seasons later he captured a record eighth championship at the track where a section of the grandstand bears his name. Christopher’s overall victory total – at Stafford alone – sits at 121.
Still carrying a full race schedule of two and three events a week at age 55, Christopher is closing in on 100 total victories at Thompson (Conn.) Speedway, where he has four track titles. Christopher also has 36 wins and a championship at Waterford (Conn.) Speedbowl among his career accomplishments.
When the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series celebrated 25 years of operation in 2006, Christopher was named one of the Top 25 drivers in series history.
At the regional touring series level, Christopher has nabbed 58 victories between the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Forty-two of those triumphs have come in the northeastern-based Whelen Modified Tour, where he ranks third on the all-time wins list.
Christopher’s career in NASCAR has run the gamut, from the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series all the way up to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He won the inaugural NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event in 2005 and twice participated in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the premier event on the NASCAR GRAND-AM schedule.
Christopher will close out his 2013 season at Thompson when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule concludes on Sunday, Oct. 20 with the Sunoco World Series 150 presented by Xtra Mart.
The 2013 Plainville Sports Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at Nuchie’s in Forestville, Conn.
