Valenti Modified Racing Series Adds New Personnel

Canaan, NH — With the 2014 season already drawing closer by the day, Valenti Modified Racing Series officials have announced the addition of two key members to the officiating team for the new season.

Long-time official Warren Alston of Trenton, New Jersey, and Robert Rund, of Medway, Massachusetts, joins the series in the spring.

Mr. Alston brings a long and storied history in motorsports at both a premier flagging level and as one the top safety officials in the region.

Fresh off a seven-year run as the chief starter and safety inspector for the NASCAR K&N East Series, Mr.Alston is also the chief starter and safety coordinator for Lenny Sammons Productions and all of their Indoor Racing events in Atlantic City, Baltimore, Providence and Trenton.

Mr. Alston began his officiating career in 1985, flagging at several speedways and noted touring clubs including the famed URC Sprint Cars circuit and the famed ARDC Midget organization.

Mr. Alston served the historic Flemington (NJ) Speedway as the chief starter from 1993 thru 2000 and has held the same position with the United States Auto Club (USAC) Eastern Seaboard events.

Finally and most impressive, Warren Alston was the 1996 recipient Paul Heitmann Memorial Official of the Year Award, presented at the Race Of Champions, for his heroic actions of pulling a driver from a burning race car in 1995.

Robert Rund is one of the bright, up and coming, members of the racing community and is officially joining the VMRS for all events in 2014. Mr. Rund worked several series events in 2013 as an assistant to chief scorer Jenn Ready, and has consistently shown he has what it takes to make the Valenti Modified Racing Series the best it can be every week.

Mr. Rund, a civil engineer by trade, has a stellar track record in local motorsports. Beginning with the Tri-State Karting Club for two seasons as the assistant scorer, he then moved on to his home track, Seekonk (MA) Speedway, for three years in the same capacity. Robert spent the last two seasons with Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) as a timing/scoring official.

Series director Scott Tapley is excited to announce the addition of Alston and Rund to the 2014 VMRS staff. “I couldn’t be more excited to add two great people to our already exemplary officiating staff. I’ve known Warren from my years as a competitor in the NASCAR East Series and I’m so proud to have someone of his talent and professionalism involved with our series,” said Tapley.

About Rund, Tapley said, “Robert is a great kid, who has a very bright future in this sport, he works day and night to make sure he has everything correct at all times and that type of work ethic is what our series is all about.”

The 2014 Valenti Modified Racing Series season kicks off in late March at the Waterford (CT) Speedbowl.
