Ryan Posocco Wins Fourth Career Stafford Late Model Championship

Stafford Springs, CT — The 2008 Late Model season at Stafford Motor Speedway saw Ryan Posocco take home his fourth career championship behind the wheel of Marcia Kretschman’s #48 Davidson Company Ford. Posocco and the Kretschman team put together a season for the ages that saw them win 7 races and post 14 podium finishes in 17 starts. The Kretschman team won the 2006 Late Model championship with Woody Pitkat behind the wheel, so although Posocco expected some success going into the 2008 season, he never imagined the level of success that they reached this year.

“I think going into the year, [the Kretschmans and myself] expected to have some success, but we never could have imagined the level of success that we reached this year,” said Posocco. “I don’t think any one of us thought that we could do what we did this year.”

Posocco began the season strong out of the box, racking up top-4 finishes each week. But Dillon Moltz had an even better start to the season, putting together a three-race winning streak that saw him hold a slim lead over Posocco in the points standings. But Posocco would end Moltz’s streak at three wins and he then proceeded to go on a streak of his own over the next five races, taking four wins and a second place finish that put him at the top of the standings, a position that he would never relinquish for the remainder of the 2008 season.
“I’ve never had a season like this in any form of racing in my career,” said Posocco. “We had seven wins this year, we’ve done that before, but we’ve never had the consistency there all year long like we did this year. A lot of that was luck. We missed a lot of wrecks this year that happened right in front of us and that’s what it takes to be a champion. The last couple years, we were good, but we didn’t have much luck on our side. After winning three championships in a row, we knew the law of averages was going to catch up with us, but this year everything went right for us.”

Although this is Posocco’s fourth career championship in the Late Model division at Stafford Motor Speedway, he compares it to the first championship he won during the 2003 season.
“Winning, whether it’s a race or a championship, never gets old, that’s why we come to the track every week, is to win,” said Posocco. “When you win your first championship, it will always be the first and one that you will always remember. This year, teaming with Marcia and Pat, it was like winning my first championship all over again since I’ve never driven for a car owner before. It was pretty special to be able to win this championship for everyone involved with the 48 car this year, we had an unbelievable season together.”

Posocco will officially be crowned the 2008 Late Model track champion at the 39th Stafford Motor Speedway Champions Awards Ceremony on Friday, November 14, 2008 at the La Renaissance Banquet Facility in East Windsor.
