Specialty Awards Honoring Jenkins & Blewett Added to North-South Shootout
Pack Also to Be Honored
Lexington, NC — This week when a hardy contingent of Modifieds and SK-Type Modifieds converge on the Concord Motorsports Park for the running of the 6th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South ShootoutTM they will do so not only for the prestige of the race win and a lucrative purse but also to honor two very special men. C&C Racing Promotions is proud to announce the addition of two very special awards to the annual North-South Shootout while the family of the late John Blewett III continues to honor his memory with specialty awards for the Modifieds and the SK-Type Modifieds.
Beginning in 2008, the dedication of two teams will be recognized by C&C Racing Promotions with the Josh Jenkins Memorial Dedication Award. The award is named for one of the co-founders of the North-South Shootout, Ollie Gray “Josh” Jenkins Jr., who passed away in December. Josh was one of the original members of the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams (S.M.A.R.T.) and former Club president. He made the best interest of Modified racing a priority. His accomplishments on behalf of Southern Modified racers were many.
The Josh Jenkins Memorial Dedication Award will be presented to the person in each the Modifieds and SK-Type Modifieds who displays an unwavering dedication to the North-South Shootout. Jenkins himself was a dedicated supporter of the Southern Modified racing community.
The family of the late John Blewett III continues to honor his memory with specialty awards for the Modifieds and the SK-Type Modifieds. The family will present six (6) bonuses of $166 each. Pills numbered 11 through the number of total cars in the starting field will be put in individuals cans for the Modifieds and SK Modifieds. At the end of the pit party, the kids that compete in the pedal car races will select three (3) numbers for the SK-Type Modifieds and three (3) for the Modifieds. The drivers that finish in the positions of the numbers selected will fittingly receive an additional $166 a piece.
It will be a difficult time for many when they arrive at Concord Motorsport Park for this year’s Shootout. Brian Pack, a favorite among the racing community, who has been a fixture at the Shootout since the inaugural event, will be sorely missed. The Bowman Gray Stadium regular and Whelen Southern Modified Tour competitor passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, after injuries sustained in motorcycle accident. Pro System, Inc. of Mooresville, NC, will extend their involvement with the 6th annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout in a very special way in 2008.
Pro-Systems, Inc. will present the Brian Pack Memorial Driver Appreciation Award. The 18th place finisher (the reciprocal number of Brian’s Whelen Southern Modified Tour Car) will receive an extra $500.
“Pro System Inc. is very pleased to present this award in the memory of Brian Pack, said Tommy Strup, Short Track Sales Manager. “As a major parts supplier in all forms of racing, it saddens us to hear of the loss of anyone in Motorsports. Our involvement in the Modified Series has grown over the past few years. We feel a great sense of loss as all racers regard each other as family.”
It is an award that Brian truly would have appreciated.
A host of other contingency awards from the likes of great companies like the Joie of Seating, DMC Auto Exchange, Pro-System Brakes, Pro Shocks, Brown & Miller Racing Productions are up for grabs during the 6th Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout TM presented by the Cabarrus Country Convention & Visitors Bureau and Town & Country Ford featuring the East-West Supermodified Shootout.
