Adam Norton Focused on SK Light Modified Wins
Adam Norton of Ludlow, MA is preparing his SK Light Modified for another racing season. Unlike past seasons, Norton will only be focused on wins instead of a championship.
“Everything is going good,” Norton said. “(The) car is just about done being put back together. It’s lettered already. I’m getting married in May, so I can’t really run for points anywhere because I’m going to miss two weeks so (the) plan is Monadnock, some Stafford shows and open shows where we can run with the SK (Modifieds).” He may return to Thompson to defend his World Series victory.
“Yes. (Winning) that’s going be our main goal for this season and get very organized for the 2015,” Norton said. “I hope we can pick up a couple of sponsors. … It’s just hard because (I’m) not the type of person to go asking and I think that’s been my biggest problem; I’m very quiet.”
Norton won six times at Monadnock and closed the season with a World Series victory at Thompson. “I thought we had a really really good year for a first year team,” Norton said. “… I think we only finished out of the top-10 once. We ended up second in NH state points and third at Monadnock, also had a top-10 at the Seekonk open show and was the only SK Light on the lead lap”
The 17 SK Light Modified is sponsored by Custom Pallets Inc. (of Brookfield, MA), Lamoureux Ford (of East Brookfield, MA), Lafleur Cordwood (of Gill, MA), Thirty Two Signs (of Baltic, CT) , and JRi Shocks (of Mooresville, NC). Norton’s crew members are “Mom, Dad, Anne, Jason Dawson, and Joey Lafleur is my crew chief. …My mom and fiancé run the whole team.”
Norton is considering the $10,000 Tri-Track Open Series at Lee, Star and Seekonk. “I’ve been thinking about it,” Norton said. “I’m just wondering how a Light car would run with the Tour-Type cars. I think if we have a weight break and can run a good size four barrel we would run them.”
Although it may not take place for this year, Jim Schafer, AKA: Long Island Mod Maniac, contacted Norton about being a support division for the Tri-Track Series.
Norton also has another idea to grow the SK Light Modifieds, a touring series. “Yes I think it would be great to have a tour,” Norton said. “That way the younger ones can get the feeling of touring and get themselves out there. … I really wish I could run the (Whelen Modified) Tour and I think I would be pretty good at it if I had a chance but I just don’t have the finances to being a team so guess having a tour at this level would be good.“
“I started to get a lot of grief about it … I just like traveling to different tracks and I can’t afford the Whelen (Modified) Tour and I tried the MRS and the motors are too expensive. … Everyone is saying it’s too expensive to travel, but the way I look at it is this is all expensive anyway you look at it. We aren’t in it to make money, so why not have fun doing it?”
Norton’s car will be on display at the Monadnock Speedway booth for Frank Maratta’s Auto and Race-A-Rama Show on March 1-2 at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA.
