Thompson Champions to be Honored in Two Big Nights
Thompson, CT – Thompson International Speedway will pay tribute to its six NASCAR Whelen All American Series champions on Friday, January 23rd and Saturday, January 24th. With the number of racers who attend the awards ceremonies, it takes two evenings to honor the 2008 champions along with those race teams that finished in the top ten in track points during the year just completed.
Pro Stock champion, Fred Astle, Jr will top the list during the Friday festivities and Kerry Malone will be honored as the Sunoco Modified champ on Saturday. Winners of division titles who will also be honored on Friday will be Limited Sportsman champ, Scott Sundeen and Mini Stock title holder, Danny Field.
Saturday night’s festivities will not only pay tribute to Malone, but will also feature Late Model champion, Jeff Zuidema and the winner of the Thompson Modified title, Kurt Vigeant.
In addition to the drivers and race teams that reached the top in their 2008 racing efforts, Thompson International Speedway will honor drivers and race teams that finished in the top ten in each of the six NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions that make up the exciting Thursday Night Thompson Thunder schedule.
A few tickets remain for these annual celebrations which are held at the Raceway Restaurant and Lounge on the grounds of the Thompson Speedway. The social hour begins each night at 6:30 PM with awards presentations starting at 7:30 PM. Everyone attending must have a ticket to present at the door to gain admittance to either of these events since they are traditionally sell outs.
The 2009 Thompson racing schedule has been posted on the track’s web page and will be available at the banquets as well. The all-new racing line up will be a busy one for fans and competitors with some new and exciting events planned. “We feel that this is the year to offer some new events to both the race fans and the competitors,” said track owner, Don Hoenig. “We have given this year’s racing schedule a lot of thought and have come up with a line up that we feel will make for some exciting new events while maintaining much of what has made Thompson successful in the past,” Hoenig concluded.
Race teams are encouraged to renew their driver and car number registration forms as soon as possible. The deadline to be guaranteed that a team’s car number will be available for renewal is January 15th. After that date, any numbers not secured for the 2009 racing season will be available on a first come, first served basis.
