Canyon Speedway Park Season Opener this Saturday!

PEORIA, Ariz. (March 10, 2015) – It’s take two for the Canyon Speedway Park 2015 Season Opener, with ideal weather ushering in the new season with Saturday’s action atop the 1/3-mile clay oval.

Following an open practice session on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.Saturday’s CSP Season Opener goes green at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday’s card that was originally set for February 28 will feature the ASCS Southwest Region winged Sprint Cars along with the 9thWorld Vapor IMCA Modifieds, Arizona Differential Pure Stocks, Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades and Dwarf Cars.

The CSP Season Opener marks the first winged Sprint Car outing at Canyon Speedway Park since August of 2013, when Las Cruces shoe Rick Ziehl raced to his second consecutive CSP score of that year.

The seven-time and reigning ASCS Southwest champion, Ziehl topped the recent ASCS Southwest opener at Casa Grande to take the early series points lead over Lorne Wofford, Billy Chester III, Ryan Linder and Casey Buckman.

After winning two of three Winter Challenge events at CSP in January, Ricky Thornton, Jr., kicks off his pursuit of the track’s 9th World Vapor IMCA Modified title that is worth $2,500 in 2015.  Kenny Wallace is expected to join in on Saturday’s IMCA Modified action.

Reigning champion Matt Martinez kicks off his pursuit of the $2,000-to-win Arizona Differential Pure Stock championship after taking two of three Winter Challenge wins as well. 

David Harrington begins his Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Renegades title defense, with this year’s title worth $750.

The Renegades race for $300 to win and $50 to start with progressive purses in effect for IMCA Modifieds and Pure Stocks.  Progressive purse information is available at http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/driver-info/purse/.

Tickets for Saturday’s CSP Season Opener are just $16, with a $3 discount for Military, Seniors and Students.  Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free.  VIP passes are available for $20.
