The Devoted Daredevil: Jim Boyle Makes Racing a Family Affair
NORTH STONINGTON, CT – Jim Boyle started his racing career a step behind most drivers. The East Windsor, CT resident climbed behind the wheel of a Super X car at New London-Waterford Speedbowl at age 43, with help of friends and family.
“I have always been a race fan, and now that my kids are older, and time is a little more available, it seemed like something my son, Jim Jr., and I could do together,” Boyle spoke. “We both love the sport, and he is my right-hand man, putting in the hours it takes to run competitively.”
Boyle’s wife of twenty years, Deanna, has been by his side with everything the risk-taker does; Jim loves to sky dive, scuba dive, and ride his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, as well; and his four children, and three grandchildren, are all devout race fans. The relationship between family and racing doesn’t end there.
“My middle-grandchild, Chase, is autistic,” explains Boyle. “I bring my race car to different events that support autism, hang out with autistic children, take pictures, and let them sit in the car. New London-Waterford Speedbowl, and Lisa Vogelsong, have helped me promote all these events, including a Walk for Autism at Rentschler Field (CT).”
Boyle is a busy man, both on and off the track. The pilot of the Boyle Home Improvement/ NorthEast Auto Machine/ Sal’s Glass Chevrolet Monte Carlo will run the full North East Street Stock Tour, as well as select events in the Street Stock division at New London-Waterford Speedbowl, and an SK Modified at Stafford Speedway.
Admits Boyle, “My wife calls it my mid-life crisis. She is extremely supportive of anything I do, and being a race fan herself, loves to go to the track.”
The 2012 Super X Car New London-Waterford Speedbowl champion is looking forward to the new challenge with the North East Street Stock Tour, as well as the relationship with the upstart promotions company, Outside the Box Promotions, which will run the series in the inaugural year.
“I can’t wait for New London-Waterford Speedbowl,” said Boyle. “I love the track, and it is my home track. I’m really looking forward to the road course at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, also.”
“Being an upstart tour, my feeling is the experience that comes to the table from OTB Promotions can only help bring this tour to the next level, in years to come.”
