The Month Ahead at DCRP
DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 30, 2015) – As the time comes to turn the page of the calendar from April to May, it’s also time for a quick look at what’s on the docket at Dodge City Raceway Park.
With the initial pair of events successfully logged into the books with the April 11 season opener and then this past weekend’s card on April 25, another pair of events are on the May slate.
The initial event of the upcoming month is on Saturday, May 9, with the final event of the month on May 30.
The May 9 card will feature the URSS Sprint Cars while the NCRA Sprint Car series makes its first stop of the season atop the 3/8-mile clay oval on May 30. While points will be awarded towards the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars on the May 9 URSS card, the track’s championship chase divisions of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks will be in action as well on both nights in May.
Out to the early lead in the track’s title chases are Luke Cranston, Clay Sellard, Kevin Tabor, Michael Pepper and Matt O’Hair.
After a third-place finish in the season opener, Cranston vaulted to the top of the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car points after his triumph last Saturday night with C.J. Johnson, Brian Herbert, Ray Seemann and opening night winner Ty Williams also among the early top five.
The May 9 URSS card will also be the third round of action for the Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, with Johnson and Cranston also among URSS top five in points after the recent season opener topped by Jed Werner.
Sellard is out to the early IMCA Modified points lead by winning both features thus far. His lead is slight though at only ten points over two-time and reigning track champion Austin Allen, who claimed runner-up honors in both main events. Kevin Gray is another 17 points back in third with Jimmy Brozek and William Nusser rounding out the current top five.
The IMCA Sport Modified points battle is bunched up after two rounds of action with Tabor just four points ahead of the trio of Mike Appel, Bart Baker and Michael Pepper that are tied for second with defending champ Jeff Kaup just another two points back.
Pulling double duty each night, Pepper is two-for-two in IMCA Stock Car action to hold an early 14-point advantage over Dusty Witthuhn and Ron Hartman while last year’s Thunder Car champ, Matt O’Hair, holds the early advantage in IMCA Hobby Stock points by six points over Cody Davis with Reagan Sellard another two points back in third.
The May 9 event will mark the second of the season for the URSS Sprint Cars while the May 30 card will be the third of the season for the NCRA Sprint Cars after Danny Lasoski won the opener at Wichita on March 28 with round two this weekend at Rising City, NE.
The 2015 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park includes 15 nights of competition with a number of special events along the way, highlighted by the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars Boothill Showdown on July 3-4.
