New London-Waterford Speedbowl Thursday Night Thunder 5/21 Results

Waterford, CT (May 21, 2015) – New-London Waterford Speedbowl returned to the race track Thursday for the third Night Thunder program of the season with mid-week motorsports action.  Michael Blaskey of Waterbury landed in the winner’s circle after wiring the INEX Legend Cars feature, Anthony Marvin of Colchester continued a hot start with a victory in the INEX Bandolero race, while Dave Gargaro Jr. of Cranston, RI picked up his second X-Car victory of the year and Brian Norman of Clinton scored top honors in the Super X-Car race.

Blaskey took control of the 25-lap INEX Legend Cars race with an opening lap surge that put him out front.  He led the race which was completed without a caution flag.  Over the middle stages of the event both Jordan Churchill of Lisbon and Joey Ternullo of Middletown closed in, however when they began to battle for second position Blaskey was able to pull ahead.  Ternullo took the runner-up position late but could not mount a challenge.  He finished second, while Salem’s John O’Sullivan III was third after Churchill dropped out of the event in the closing laps with mechanical failure.

Marvin was equally impressive in the 20-lap INEX Bandolero feature.  He and Chaplin’s Nickolas Hovey powered ahead to a convincing advantage over the field.  While Hovey had enough to stay with Marvin, he could not muster a serious threat to Marvin.

Norman got into the lead early in the 25-lap Super X-Car feature and raced ahead of a torrid battle for podium finishes behind him.  Wales, MA driver Shane Peele emerged in second and had one look at unseating Norman for victory on the bottom of the track, but Norman prevailed.  Peele settled for second and Southington’s Bill Reiman placed third.

The 25-lap X-Car feature went to Gargaro after a convincing performance.  He bided his time early in the going, asserted himself into the race lead over a green flag run through the middle portion of the event, and powered to the victory over a final stretch of racing that took the race to the checkered flag.  Randy Johnston of Westerly ran an impressive race to claim second after starting the feature in the back of the field, and Eric Finkbein Jr. of Manchester was third.
