Polewarczyk scores ACT Dave’s Small Engine Ventrac 150 win at Oxford Plains Speedway
Robbins & Robbins prevail atop weekly Budweiser Championship Series racing card
Oxford, Maine – Joey Polewarczyk of Hudson, New Hampshire extended his lead in the battle for the ACT Late Model Tour championship with his victory in the Dave’s Small Engine Ventrac 150 on Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Polewarczyk prevailed in an aggressive, paint-swapping battle with Windham’s Brad Babb, who looked like a winner before contact from behind set off a chain of events which cost Babb the race lead and, eventually, any chance of victory.
Dillon Moltz of Waterford, Connecticut made a late charge into second position, with Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, Vermont filling out the podium. Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown, Vermont and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, New Hampshire rounded out the top five.
ACT Dave’s Small Engine Ventrac 150 heat race victories were earned by Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts and Travis Fadden of North Haverhill, New Hampshire.
Scott Robbins of Dixfield scored his second victory of the season in the 50-lap main event for the Budweiser Championship Series Super Late Models. Robbins had to chase down Gary Chiasson of Peru, who led most of the race before yielding to the eventual winner.
Chiasson’s run stopped an extended streak of bad racing luck. Multi-time track champion Shawn Martin of Turner charged through traffic to claim the third-place spoils in the Super Late Model class. Buckfield racers Kyle Treadwell and Timmy Brackett rounded out the top five. Chiasson and Brackett won heat races.
Ryan Robbins of Dixfield prevailed in the 25-lap feature race for the OPS Mods division. Matt Sanborn of Westbrook led most of the race before Robbins got by after an extended battle, posting a career-best second-place Mods finish. Evan Armington of Lovell filled out the podium. Scott Alexander of Newburgh and West Bath’s Nick Reno filled out the top five, just in front of New England racing Hall of Famer Robbie Crouch of Burlington, Vermont. Sanborn won the heat race.
Mechanic Falls native Jon Lizotte returned to his winning ways in the Wood Pellet Warehouse Figure 8 15-lapper. It was the 100thOPS victory for the Maine Racing Hall of Famer. The previous week’s winner, Mike St. Germain of Auburn claimed runner-up honors, with one of the all-time OPS Figure 8 greats, David Smith of South Paris, nailing down a third-place finish. Geoffrey Low of Minot and Auburn’s Eric Hodgkins filled out the top five.
Toby Wells of Dublin, New Hampshire continued his dominance of the North East Mini Stock Tour, easily pulling away from the competition after taking command midway through the 50-lap race. Rob Greenleaf of West Bath was the best of the rest, with third position earned by Justin Trombley of Winter Harbor. Justin Larsen of Peru and Nicholas Anderson of Oxford, Massachusetts. Matt Sonnhalter of East Thetford, Vermont , Wells and Larsen won NEMST heat races.
Josh Childs of Oxford unofficially cruised to his fourth win of the season in the 30-lap finale for the Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock class, pending the outcome of an extensive post-race inspection that was incomplete at press time. Tyson Jordan of South Paris ended up with a second-place finish after apparent runner-up Zach Bowie of Greene was disqualified for a weight infraction in post-race inspection. Andrew Breton of Sabattus claimed a third-place finish, in front of Calvin Rose, Jr. of Turner and Bryce Mains of Naples. Childs and Matt Williams of Brownfield won heat races.
Cam Childs of Leeds muscled his way past Bridgton’s Troy Smith late in the 20-lap main event for the Bandits division, then held off points leader Shaun Hinkley of Oxford to post the victory. Smith finished up in third position, followed by Tyler Green of Turner and Otisfield’s Michael Cleveland. Smith and Jamie Heath of Waterford won heat races.
