Santos, Coby Pace Field in Bristol Practices
Under Track Record In Final Rain-Shortened Session
BRISTOL, Tenn. – Intermittent rain showers might have limited the amount of practice time for the NASCAR Whelen Modified and Southern Modified drivers Wednesday afternoon – but it didn’t slow many of them down.
Bobby Santos led a group of 10 drivers who were below the tour’s track record during final practice for the Bush’s Beans 150 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Santos paced the field with a fast lap of 14.625 seconds (131.200 mph) during the rain-shortened final session, as all top-10 spots were taken by Whelen Modified Tour regulars.
Doug Coby, who led the 42-car field during the morning practice session, was second on the board in final practice (14.627/131.182). Eric Goodale was third (14.660/130.887) with Woody Pitkat and Ryan Preece completing the top five.
Former Bristol race winner Donny Lia was sixth with Ted Christopher, Justin Bonsingore, Patrick Emerling and Todd Szegedy rounding out the top 10.
Whelen Southern Modified Tour points leader Burt Myers was the fastest in final practice for the Southern regulars, finishing 14th overall.
Qualifying is set for 3 p.m. with the green flag for the Bush’s Beans 150 slated for 6:15 p.m.
