Driver: Michael Bennett

Division: Late Model

How long have you been racing?

I’ve been racing since 2002 – 14 years.

Racing History:

We started in the DARE division in 2002 -2004, moved on to Limited Late Models in 2005, then Late Models in 2006-2010. We switched to the SK Modifieds from 2011-2013, and returned to Late Models in 2014-2015, all at Stafford Speedway.

What are your goals for this season?

We are racing a part-time schedule this year, but that being said we are trying out new tracks with our new Late Model (ACT). Hopefully, we can get comfortable with the new car and contend for wins. I feel the team and I have been racing together long enough that we know how to make things work. With BFR Chassis helping us too, we should be up front with the top guys who race Thompson. I have raced against Keith and Jeff Rocco in the past, and both guys who everyone is trying to beat. Hopefully, we are right with them.

What made you first want to get into racing?

My family was involved in racing before I was born. Both my grandfathers either raced or owned Strictly Stocks and Late Models. My father raced Late Models in the 80’s when I was too young to remember, but my grandfather Herb Bennett Sr. raced until 1999, and I watched him race along with my entire family. So I guess you can say it’s in my blood, and I just had to get a chance to get behind the wheel. Now it’s escalated to many wins and championships.

Why did you decide to race at Thompson Speedway this season?

I wanted a new challenge. The Late Models at Thompson gave us an opportunity to have a race car we could race elsewhere, and their schedule helps that.

How has the racing community been helpful in supporting your son’s fight against leukemia?

The racing community was incredible toward my son and my family at the time he was diagnosed. We were very overwhelmed by the help everyone has given Chace. Most of these people I haven’t met, but with the help of Woody Pitkat and Cassie Rocco, and I’m sure a whole bunch of other people, they helped us in ways we could never repay. We are very grateful to know that the racing community is actually a huge family.

Has there been anyone important that helped you get to where you are now in racing?

Yes, so many people. My crew of course: AJ, Corey, my father, Randy, Schuyler, Ross, James, and a bunch of other friends who have helped working on the car whenever needed. There is no way I could do it without them. Rick Casagrande, the entire Rowe family, my grandmother Irene, my grandfather Herb Sr, Bingo, and all of my generous sponsors who support our racing and, of course, my wife and family for letting me do the things I love.
