Quin Houff Announces New Benefit for Duke Cancer Institute

Short Track Racer to Debut New Paint Scheme at Rattler 250
WEYERS CAVE, Va. (March 17, 2016) – Always looking to give back to the community, short track racer Quin Houff is excited to announce a new initiative to help raise awareness of cancer and cancer treatment options. The non-profit program looks to raise money for cancer research at Duke Cancer Institute through donations at www.beatincancerwithduke.org.

Houff and his family have an intimate connection with the institute as his mother, Kate Houff, is a two-time cancer survivor.

“This time last year, my mom went to a local hospital and was diagnosed with cancer for the second time,” explained Houff. “We were told that this something she couldn’t beat and would have to live with. That was a really low point for us, so we went to Duke for a second opinion and they said it was beatable, which was such a turnaround from what we had been told. Duke put her on an aggressive treatment plan, which started with six months of chemo and then six weeks of radiation, and it worked. The treatments did exactly what we had hoped for. She just went back to Duke recently for a checkup and is considered cancer free. At the same time though, my grandma on my dad’s side is also fighting cancer and we will continue to support her through her fight.”

Houff will debut a new paint scheme to raise awareness for “www.beatincancerwithduke.org” at the Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway on March 20. Houff previously ran a black and pink paint scheme with the hashtag #beatincancer last season and is looking forward to expanding the awareness with Duke’s assistance.

“Last year we had the hashtag but I wanted to do something more this year,” said Houff. “The partnership with Duke came about and so we decided to freshen it up. We worked with our designer from last year who used “Duke Blue” and came up with a couple options and went from there.”

While Houff does not have a specific monetary goal in mind that he wants to obtain, he is excited for the impact the partnership will bring as he races across the country in 2016. He will personally be involved in the benefit by donating 50 percent of his winnings to Duke for any Top-10 finishes he secures throughout the season.

“I really like to do whatever I can with my racing career to give back to the community,” Houff stated. “Cancer is very common and directly affects a lot of people. If we can use this platform to give other people the hope that we received last year, that would be huge. I don’t have any other goal than representing the partnership well. Any and every donation would be great. I just want to show people what Duke has done for us and give them that hope as well.”

While he will personally promote this cause throughout the 2016 race season, Houff and his team are actively seeking sponsorship opportunities.
“We are still actively seeking sponsors for the year,” said Houff. “Sponsorships are what keep the race program and possibilities like this partnership happening. We’d love to incorporate sponsors into our www.beatincancerwithduke.org race car.”
