PASS South and Late Model Stock Doubleheader Set for South Boston this Weekend
CHARLOTTE, NC (June 1) — After a thriller last weekend, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models will be back at it this Saturday night at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway. The NASCAR Late Model Stock cars have seen the highest car counts in the region and will also compete in Twin 75s, along with the Hornets division. While PASS South championship leader Kodie Conner has a slight 10 point advantage over Matt Craig, defending series champion Tate Fogleman has moved back up to third in the standings and hopes to make up more ground in Saturday night’s 150 lapper.
“I’m really excited to head back to South Boston this weekend,” says Fogleman, driver of the Fogleman Soils/PFC Brakes Ford #8. “The track has many different grooves to run, but I prefer getting my car hooked on the flats in both corners. If you can find speed down there it makes passing a lot easier during the race. South Boston draws a lot of fans for me and having that fan base builds up confidence. I love the support they always provide.”
In addition to the PASS South regulars, defending race winner Kaz Grala will bring the LFR Chassis entry back to South Boston Speedway as he seeks to claim another checkered flag. Likewise, Boca Raton, FL driver Dalton Sargeant returns to PASS piloting the Bond Suss Racing car. Sargeant impressed in his first PASS South starts in late 2014 and is hoping for big things in his return this weekend.
“Really looking forward to South Boston Speedway this weekend and returning to the PASS South Series,” says Sargeant, driver of the Windows 10/Lane Automotive Toyota Camry #55. “I cut my teeth racing in the PASS South Series, it was home to a few of my very first starts in a Super Late Model, so the series is like home for me, and I love racing in the southeast.”
This weekend’s event at South Boston will be the culmination of a busy week for Sargeant that began competing on road course in New Jersey and will include competing at Pocono Raceway on Friday afternoon. Sargeant believes he and the new team are poised for a victory.
“This will be my first trip to South Boston Speedway in a Super Late Model as I’ve only competed there in Late Models with Lee Pulliam Performance,” says Sargeant “The test went really well, it was definitely an adjustment racing a Super Late Model around the track. We have really high expectations, we’ve been really close so far this season with a brand new race team and new car, but just haven’t been able to visit victory lane. Hopefully, we can get win number one at South Boston Speedway this weekend.”
All the action gets underway on Friday at South Boston Speedway with open practice for all competing divisions from 9 AM – 5 PM. On Saturday, practice will begin at 2 PM with qualifying starting at 5 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, NASCAR Late Model Stocks and Hornets, followed by main events starting at 7 PM.
