This Week Ahead: Super DIRTcar Series Gears Up For Historic Week in Ohio

Heads to Eldora and Sharon Speedway

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – July 17, 2016 – One of the biggest weeks in Big-Block Modified racing is here as the greatest drivers from northeast converge to Eldora Speedway July 19-20 and Sharon Speedway July 21.

Tim Fuller, the last Super DIRTcar Series driver to win at Eldora Speedway says there is absolutely no comparison going into Ohio.

As Fuller looks to defend his title, his fellow competitors look to beat him. Fuller knows how to win not only at Eldora but Sharon too. Will he be the man to beat this week?

Tim Fuller – No. 19 Monadnock Disposal Service

You’ve been to Eldora and won there, how would you compare Eldora to other tracks you’ve raced at?

There is no comparison. It’s one of those places that’s high banked and you can go wide open all the way around. There’s not many places that I know of that you can do that. When the track and the car is right you can go all the way around the track and never lift. There’s not many places on our circuit, if any, that you can do that.

What are your feelings about going to such a historical track and then to follow with another big named track owned by the Blaney family?

Sharon is a good track run by a great family. I won a World of Outlaw race there back in 2009.

Eldora is a huge race; you’ll be on stage with the NASCAR Camping World Trucks, does that change anything?

I don’t care about that. I’m running with the best drivers in the country now.

Stewart Friesen – No. 44 Halmar International

You’ve never been to Eldora or Sharon before, have you been doing any studying for it?

I haven’t been doing much studying. I have to get on that. I’ve done a little bit of studying of Sharon and talked to some people about the track that have been there. Jess has been there before so that should help a little bit. Sadly, she’s going to miss the trip which stinks. But she’s going to give us some tips on Sharon and we’ll have to try our best at Eldora.

How does it feel to be at such a historic track and to be on stage with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series?

It’s awesome. It’s a great showcase for our series to be a part of. I think that big block modified racing is pretty well received and when we’re on a national stage like at Volusia or Charlotte I think it’s well received by the late model and sprint car type fans so it’s great to get back there. It’s been a couple years so getting back there is a good shot in the arm for the Series this year.

Matt Sheppard – No. 9s FX Caprara

You’ve raced Eldora before, how did you do?

I got second the first time and broke a motor the second time.

How would you compare Eldora to other tracks you’ve raced at?

You can’t compare. It’s totally different than any other racetrack.

How does it feel to be at such a historical track and to be on stage with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series?

It’s really going to be cool. It’s cool to go there in the first place. The amount of people that are going to be there because of the trucks that puts us on a really big stage. That place is going to be packed and all of those people are going to get to see us run that’s pretty exciting.

You’ve never been to Sharon, have you been doing any studying to prepare yourself?

Nope. I don’t have time. I haven’t watched one video and don’t plan on doing any studying.

What are your feelings about going to such a historic track and then to follow with another big named track owned by the Blaney family?

I’m looking forward to it. I’ve gotten to know Dave the last couple of years and I’ve known Dale from the past. Anytime we go to a new track it’s definitely exciting.

The first Super DIRTcar Series to run at Eldora Speedway was back in 2002 and was won by Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson won the following year in 2003, and then it was Tim Fuller who won the last Series race there back in 2006.

The first Super DIRTcar Series race at Sharon was run in 1981 and was won by Ed lynch. The last time the Sharon had a visit from the Series was back in 1999 and was won by Tom Winkle.

Coming Up Next

After this upcoming week the series then heads to Quebec, Canada on Monday, July 25 at Autodrome Granby and Tuesday, July 26 at Autodrome Drummond.
