TULSA, Okla. (July 25, 2016) The Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Region hits the road this weekend with tracks in west Texas and southern New Mexico on the lineup with the Western Tech Speedway Park in El Paso, Texas on Friday, July 29 and the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M. on Saturday, July 30.

With the Western Tech Speedway Park scheduled to close at the end of the 2016 season, this Friday’s sprint spectacular could mark the final time the Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Region will headline races in the west Texas town of El Paso. The series stop in 2015 saw El Paso native, John Carney II in Victory Lane.

While it was Jesse Baker who topped the action at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in 2015, it was Carney who was the man to beat earlier this season in the two night Southwest Sprint Car Shootout on Friday, April 1 and Saturday, April 2.

Going into the weekend, New Mexico’s Rick Ziehl continues his march to a ninth consecutive Carlyle Tools ASCS Southwest Regional Championship. A pair on wins in 2016, Ziehl leads by 91 points over Arizona’s Bob Ream, Jr.

Colton Hardy holds third with Lance Norick and Casey Buckman rounding out the top-five in tour standings. The top-ten rounds out with Kaylene Verville, Jesse Baker, Cody Sickles, James Aragon, and R.J. Johnson.

Rounds 12 and 13 on the 2016 lineup, seven drivers have parked in Victory Lane. John Carney II and Logan Forler are the only two this season to go back-to-back with wins while Carney is the only driver this season to sweep a weekend.
