Coughlin Enters the Dog Days of Summer Looking for More Success
DELAWARE, OHIO – As the 2016 racing schedule starts to wind down, Cody Coughlin is closing in on history. After another top 10 finish on Wednesday night in the ARCA/CRA Super Series, Coughlin’s points lead in both Champion Racing Association Late Model series continues to grow.
Coughlin enters the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour feature at Auto City Speedway in Michigan on Saturday night looking to extend his points lead in that division even more.
“We’re just getting closer to our goal,” explained Coughlin. “We just need another good run on Saturday night to move another step closer to that championship.”
The 20-year-old Delaware, Ohio native has seen success at Auto City Speedway before. His best finish came in his championship season of 2013 when he finished second.
One year ago Coughlin started second and finished 16th after fighting and ill-handling race car all night long. However, things have been drastically different for Coughlin and his Team JEGS crew this year. They’ve gone to every single race with a chance to win, and that’s why they lead the championship standings.
“Last year we struggled, but this year we’ve really meshed well and we’ve proven that with our results,” said Coughlin, the owner of two All-Stars Tour wins this year. “From the top down everyone has done their job. I’ve done a better job of learning this year and minimizing mistakes. My crew chief (Jack Smith) has done a terrific job in his first year, and everyone else from Kevin (Hamlin, team manager), Scott (Wimmer, spotter) and Dave (Holt, crew member) have all worked so hard to get us into this position. This has been a true team effort this year.
“I just can’t thank all of those guys enough for their hard work this year. I also can’t thank my family enough for their continued support. My parents (Di and John) never stop trying to help me be the best person I can be, and my sister, Kennedi, comes to every race and is just so supportive. I’m also so thankful for God’s provision and the safety he provides us.”
Coughlin will hit the track on Saturday, August 13 for the Dog Days of Summer 100, starting with practice at 4 p.m. ET. Qualifying will take place at 6:15 p.m. with racing set to begin around 8 p.m. ET.
