Coughlin Goes 15-Rounds in Vegas to Score a Top-20 Finish
LAS VEGAS, NV – Cody Coughlin fought hard all day long at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He had been fighting an illness, and an ill-handling race truck, but he never stopped fighting. Coughlin’s fighting scored him another top-20 finish at a new race track for him in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
The 20-year-old driver started the day fighting a tight condition, especially over the bumps in Vegas’ tricky turn one.
During the race Coughlin fought a loose condition, but he kept his Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota Tundra under him all race long. The result was a 17th place finish in the DC Solar 350 after starting in the 11th position, the best qualifying effort of his career.
“That was a tough one,” Coughlin said. “We just couldn’t get the handle on it tonight, but that happens sometimes. My KBM guys never gave up, so I made sure I got the best finish I could get for them. It wasn’t what we hoped for, but we’ll learn from it and move on to Talladega.”
The race at Talladega Superspeedway on October 22 is the final start for Coughlin this season with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver enjoys the style of racing seen at Talladega and Daytona International Speedway, so he’s excited to get down to Alabama.
“Restrictor-plate racing is just fun to me,” Coughlin said. “I’ve had a little bit of success at Talladega in ARCA. I won a pole and finished second there last year in ARCA, so I feel pretty comfortable. Of course, ARCA cars are very different than these trucks, but it will still be fun and that’s what I want to do the most is have fun.
“I appreciate all the hard work from all these KBM guys. I cannot thank them enough for the wonderful opportunity. I also am so grateful for my parents (Di and John) for all of the opportunities they have given me, and for the support of my sister, Kennedi. God has truly blessed me.”
