Thompson Speedway Celebrates the 4th in a Big Way

Thompson, CT — The 4th of July weekend will get an early and exciting start at the Thompson International Speedway.  Midgets and Modifieds will take center stage to kick off the holiday celebration on Thursday, July 2, 2009.

Thompson’s Thursday Night Thompson Thunder (TNTT) race program will shine the spotlight on not one, but two racing divisions. The track’s premier NASCAR Whelen All American Series division, Sunoco Modifieds will compete in a 50-lap holiday feature and the mighty Midgets of NEMA will be on hand to add to the celebration.

The Sunoco Modifieds have two extra distance races during the ’09 season and the first, a 50-lap event, will be on July 2nd.  Their next major event is slated for August 6th when they will take on a big 100-lap race.

The Northeast Midget Association (NEMA) will be making its first of two appearances at Thompson on July 2nd as well. The ultra fast and exciting Midgets will compete in a 25-lap race dedicated to the memory of long-time NEMA supporter, Marvin Rifchin. The best Midget racers in the northeast are expected to compete in this event which is very meaningful to racers across the country.

Rifchin was the founder, owner and operator of M&H Tire Company. For decades, Rifchin provided unending support for oval track and drag racers around the United States. Yet, his heart seemed to be with the cars he truly loved, the mighty Midgets of NEMA. Marvin will be remembered as part of the NEMA presentation.

Joining the Sunoco Modifieds and the NEMA Midgets will be Thompson’s Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks. It will be an exciting and fun filled night of racing action and a great way to kick of the holiday weekend.

Grandstands will open at 4 PM and qualifying races scheduled to begin at 5:15 PM. A total of 185 laps of feature event racing will be run among the seven different racing divisions.
