Carney Going Strong into Dirt Cup

EL PASO, Texas (June 20, 2019) – The last several weeks have been good ones for John Carney II and the Sander Construction/South Plains Auto Transport/Mesilla Valley Transportation No. J2 Sprint Car team.

After a runner-up finish in ASCS Speedweek points and a pair of strong South Dakota runs last weekend including a runner-up finish, Carney sets his sights on the $15,000 winner’s share at this weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour-sanctioned “Dirt Cup” at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA.

The event kicks off with the first of two preliminary nights on Thursday before wrapping up with money night on Saturday.

Carney opened the month of June in strong fashion, earning Hard Charger honors at Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Dallas by rallying from 14th to fifth in the feature event after the ASCS Speedweek opener at Amarillo’s Route 66 Motor Speedway fell victim to rain.

Carney continued on during a weather-plagued Speedweek, racking up another fifth-place finish at Lawton Speedway on Wednesday, June 5, before wrapping up the week with a runner-up finish at Kansas’ Salina Speedway on June 8.

The El Paso native continued his upward climb in the series point charts with a strong fourth-place finish at Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, South Dakota last Friday before wrapping up his first visit to the pair of South Dakota tracks with a runner-up showing at Rapid City’s Black Hills Speedway on Saturday.

With top-finishes in his last seven Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature events, Carney has climbed to fourth in series points and looks to improve upon that as he guns for a $15,000 payday at this weekend’s Dirt Cup.
