ACT Tour Set to resume Nutmeg State 100 this Saturday at Speedbowl
Waterford, CT — This Saturday August 8 marks the return of the ACT Late Model Tour to Waterford Speedbowl for the completion of the Nutmeg State 100. Originally scheduled on June 13, the first 28 laps were completed before the rains came, halting the event. The first attempt to make-up the remainder of the race was also postponed by weather on June 20.
Brad Leighton is credited as being the event leader when racing resumes, grabbing the top spot on lap one and holding through caution on lap 28 when the raindrops began to fall under yellow. Several Speedbowl regulars qualified for the field, including two-time defending Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model division champion Bruce Thomas Jr. Thomas, winner of nine Speedbowl feature events and the current points leader, finished runner up in last year’s ACT event at the shoreline oval.
Vermont driver Scott Payea, last year’s event winner, leads the ACT Late Model Tour points standings after eight events in 2009. Brian Hoar, Joey “Pole”, and Brent Dragon – all event winners in 2009 – lead the charge to chase Leighton when the action resumes.
Joining the final 72 laps of the Nutmeg State 100 will be NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action for the SK Modifieds (35-laps), Street Stocks (20-laps) and Norwich Bulletin Mini Stocks (20-laps). The Legends Cars also join the night’s racing program with a 20-lapper.
Pit gates open at 1:00pm, with an ACT open practice set for 2:15pm. Normal rotating practice sessions for Waterford Speedbowl divisions follow the open ACT practice. Main events follow qualifying and are set to begin at approximately 7:00pm. Admission is priced at $25 for adult grandstands and $5 for youth ages 6 to 14, and free for children 5 and under. The Speedbowl offers acres of free parking.
The following Saturday, August 15 marks the date of the second annual Wings ‘n Wheels event. The best in speed and excitement visit the three-eighths mile oval for a blockbuster event. The ISMA SuperModifieds (50-laps), True Value Modifieds (100-laps), NEMA Midgets (25-laps) and Speedbowl’s SK Modifieds (35-laps) compete together for a dazzling night of motorsports.
