Thomas Leads Western World Midget Practice
San Tan Valley, Arizona (November 14, 2019)………Kevin Thomas, Jr. recorded the fastest lap during USAC NOS Energy Drink National/Western States Midget open practice Wednesday night at Arizona Speedway in preparation for the 52nd running of the Western World Championships presented by San Tan Ford on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-16.
Cullman, Alabama’s Thomas set the standard of 15.073 around the 1/3-mile dirt oval in the first-ever visit for the series to Arizona Speedway aboard his Petry Motorsports/FK Rod Ends – McDonald’s – Dr. Pepper/Bullet/Speedway Toyota.
Last year’s USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget champion, Logan Seavey (Sutter, Calif.), was second fastest at 15.157, followed by 2014 series champ Rico Abreu (St. Helena, Calif.) at 15.190, 2016 USAC Silver Crown/2017 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car champion Chris Windom was fourth at 15.206 while 2018 USAC AMSOIL National Sprint champ and current USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget point leader Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, Ind.) rounded out the top-five at 15.252.
Notables throughout the field include Jason McDougal (6th), Zeb Wise (8th), Brady Bacon (9th), Buddy Kofoid (10th), Jerry Coons, Jr. (11th) and Tanner Carrick (13th). USAC Western States Midget point leader Robert Dalby was 16th while 10th place 2019 Indianapolis 500 finisher Conor Daly was 18th.
Both this Friday and Saturday night, pits open at 2pm Mountain, grandstands at 3pm, drivers meeting at 4:30pm, and cars on track at 5:30pm. Adult tickets are $30-$35, seniors are $30-$35, kids 11 and under are $15, adult pit passes are $40, kids 7-12 pit passes are $20, kids 6 and under pit passes are $10.
A practice night begins the festivities on Thursday, November 14. Adult pit passes are $30, kids 7-12 pit passes are $10 and kids 6 and under pit passes are free.
