Wrenn Sweeps Triple Crown Series
Lee, NH — Mother Nature proved to be a serious contender once again as the Pro Four Modifieds of New England (PFMNE) made their third and final visit to Lee USA Speedway. Norm Wrenn made it a clean sweep as he picked up his third victory in the Triple Crown Series presented by Bot-L-Gas and RF Logic.
Rob Richardi, Jr. and Phil Lausier brought the eleven car field to post. Cory Cleary and George Sherman were in attendance but had mechanical failures that kept them from taking part in the 25-lap main. Richardi, Jr. jumped out to an early lead with Brian Vincent taking the second spot away from Lausier on the start. Wrenn, who started the race in the seventh position, was immediately on the prowl as he quickly found himself in the top five.
Vincent would continue to stalk the leader, but Richardi, Jr. proved to be too tough as he held off the Coventry, RI-native’s advances. On the thirteenth go around, Wrenn used the lapped car of Billy Joerres as a pick, and took the second position away from Vincent. Just one lap later, Wrenn wrestled the lead out of Richardi, Jr.’s hands.
The lone yellow of the event waived on lap 15 as Dan Meservey’s family-owned mount came to rest against the turn two wall backwards. Meservey was able to continue, as he sustained no damage to the infamous #11A Pro Four.
Once the four cylinder power plants were brought back to life, Wrenn continued to lead with Vincent and Richardi, Jr. in tow. As the five-to-go signal was being given to the field, Lausier blasted past Richardi, Jr. taking control of the third spot. And that is how they would run to the checkers, with Wrenn, Vincent, and Lausier all collecting podium finishes. Richardi, Jr. and Meservey rounded out the top five. Franky Perry, Michael Crawford, Billy Joerres, Mike Patnaude, Dave Richardi, and Stan Mertz comprising the balance of the field.
Crawford was the first Limited Pro Four across the line followed by Joerres and Mertz.
The next PFMNE event will be Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the Seekonk Speedway. Post time is 6:00pm.
