Moving Forward

As we remember the events of the past few weeks we know in our hearts we need to move forward. Closing a chapter in our lives doesn’t mean having to forget. It also means that we don’t have to act like it didn’t happen. Many I have talked with feel this will take some time to close this chapter. I agree and that’s alright, it’s a testament to how deeply we felt for John and his place in our lives. Let us start the process of moving forward. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

One of the most difficult things we do in racing is figuring out the appropriate way to honor one of our own after they have gone. A couple indications of their impact on the racing community are the several attempts to remember them. I have seen many of the memorial stickers from NASCAR to Wall to individual ones; each one honors John and helps us move forward. These give us a comfort that when we look at each one we will remember our friend, competitor, father, brother, and mentor. We can move forward without forgetting. We can remember him as we race.

A Difficult Time

It has been a challenging week. What started with anticipation of another great race has ended with a vacancy in our hearts. How do we get through the days and weeks ahead? It will be difficult. The reality of our sport is all to clear sometimes and all too painful. The modified family is dealing with another tragic loss. Let us spend some time working through this. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

John III was a friend. He was someone who had a passion to race. You didn’t have to spend much time with him to know what made him tick. He wanted to race, not just race but win. John was a racer, a racer’s racer.

Encouraging Actions

Words have tremendous power. What we say can change the direction of someone’s life. In addition to that how we encourage people goes a long way in determining their ability to live. We can make a tremendous difference if we just take a second and think about how the words we are about to say and the things we are about to do. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

“Put your mind in gear before you put your mouth in motion” is a popular statement but we should add “before we put our Chrome Horn in someone’s rear.” Sometimes we encourage people to get even!

Encouraging Words

Words have tremendous power. What we say can change the direction of someone’s life. Have you ever stopped to consider how what you are about to say will affect those who hear it? It would make a tremendous difference in the lives of others if we all stopped for a moment and thought about the words that are going to came out of our mouth. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Whenever we race in a live television event the warning is given at the drivers meeting. Watch what you say in the interviews. Don’t make a fool of yourself or anyone else by saying something before you think. We all know it and we have the best intentions, but it happens anyway. I am sure you have heard it said, “put your mind in gear before you put your mouth in motion.”

Vacation Time

It is that time of year when we traditionally take a vacation. The Whelen Modified Tour has had plenty of time over the last month to take some time off and relax. The Grand National Busch East Series has a few weeks before their next race at Lime Rock. We all need to take some time off. What do you have planned for your summer vacation? Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Ahhhhh, summertime, brings back memories of when I was a kid. We ruled the world, went where we wanted, when we wanted and stayed as long as we wanted. As long as we had our bikes we were free. No school, no homework, free to do anything we wanted. For me growing up vacation time was the entire summer. I lived in a neighborhood with enough kids that there was always something going on. We had enough kids to play baseball, so you could always find someone or something to do.

The Passing of the Torch

Things in life change, just as the seasons change so it goes with life. Change is a constant. In New England they say “if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute.” If change is inevitable and time marches on what are we doing to insure we influence the direction of the future? We need to act in a way that will have a lasting effect on tomorrow. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.Remember the old days? I am sure we all have stories of events, races, locked in our memory forever. We can recall them like they were yesterday. What about favorite drivers? We all have certain ones that for one reason or another we remember; memories that are burned into our minds forever.

How about heroes? There are people we look up to, separate them from others in our lives, as we seek to use their lives as motivation for ours. Do you have some heroes in your life? Do you look up to someone and desire to be like them?

No Doubt

Have we ever had a doubt? I can say with confidence that we have. One of the most challenging things we need to overcome in our lives is our doubt. It comes in many forms; hesitation, uncertainty, reservation, misgiving, distrust, disbelief, and suspicion. Many of these terms we are familiar with without a doubt. How do we remove the doubt from our minds? Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

One of the prerequisites to being a championship race driver is guts, being able to drive the car closer to the edge, faster, than anyone else. To do that requires that you have complete trust in the car, the team that assembled it and the team that is working on it in the pits. Without that trust you cannot go fast. It also requires that you focus on what you need to do as a driver; hit your marks, feel the car, and pay attention to the changing conditions as the race develops. What happens when the driver doubts his car can go as fast as it needs to? What happens when a driver doubts he can drive the car as fast as it needs to?

The Anti-Christ has Come (Part 6)

1st John 2:18 “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.”

Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus! This week, we promised to start identifying those who act in the spirit of the Antichrist, the one opposed to Jesus, the Messiah. These are the ones who act in a way contrary to the mind and attitude of our Lord. 1 John 4:3, “but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.”

The Anti-Christ has Come (Part 5)

1st John 2:18 “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.”

Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus! So, how come we still have problems with the devil since he has been defeated at the cross? In the same way, ask yourself this: Can you pass any test if you do not have the information and even if you do have the information, never take up a pencil and mark down any answers?

The Anti-Christ has Come

1st John 2:18 “Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.” Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus!

Last week, we saw Jesus being tempted by the antichrist and rebuking the devil. Jesus used the Word of God, a power the devil can not stand against. The devil had a final weapon going for him. It was death. God had a plan to defeat him, even in death.

The devil thought he had finally won at the crucifixion of Jesus. At the last moment, it happened this way: Mark 15:33-39 At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”–which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.” One man ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a stick, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, heard his cry and saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”
