Waterford, CT — Finishing fourth in points in the final Waterford Speedbowl SK-Modified standings last year was Tyler Chadwick’s “greatest accomplishment yet” but the 19-year old is hardly satisfied. He’ll return in 2008 “focused on getting that first victory.”
Last season’s top three – champion Rob Janovic Jr., runner-up Dennis Gada and steady Jeff Pearl – are all due back as well and with definite intentions. That trio has eight Speedbowl championships and 110 feature wins among them.

Waterford, CT — Tom Fox, then 15, first climbed behind the controls of a Street Stock in 1978, beginning a decades-long association with Waterford Speedbowl. Winner of over 60 Speedbowl features, the second-generation racer returns to his old haunt in 2008 but in a different role. Rather than driving his familiar # 47 SK Modified, his contributions will be more in the “behind the scenes” mode.
“Right around the time of the annual Speedbowl Christmas party, Race Director Steve Harraka and I were discussing the open-slot left by our departing Chief Technical Inspector,” says Fox. “For the first time in many years my plans didn’t include racing, but I still had an interest in staying involved. It’s hard to completely pull-away from a sport you’ve been associated with for so long and I want be a part of the Speedbowl’s success. After all, I virtually grew-up there.”

We hope to announce in the very near future that the Waterford Speedbowl operating team will also be the owner of the facility. Perhaps it makes less than perfect sense to make this announcement at this time, but management believes it is very important tonight to justify the faith many of you have shown in us and to assure you that your efforts toward the 2008 season were and are not in vain.”

At the close of only his third season in the tough Saturday night Legends division, young Michael Gervais Jr. became a champion, proving that the “youth movement” is still in full swing at the shoreline oval.
An 18-year old student at Pomperaug High School in Southbury, Gervais entered his Legends career armed with years of racing experience that started at the tender age of five.
“Unlike some of the other teams, we came to the division with a pretty good idea of what it takes to be competitive on a weekly basis, so it’s not like we were pure rookies,” says Gervais. “All of those years of kart racing helped to prepare me for what was ahead. The basic discipline is the same, although the cars themselves are a lot different. When we were in the karts, our team was fortunate enough to score multiple championships, so right from the start we had the proper perspective when it came to running for points.”
