Rookie Derrick O’Donnell received the top honors in the Late Model division, while Shawn Fleury and Bunker Hodgdon claimed the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stock Championships respectively.

He took home another victory just a few weeks later. And to cap it off, the former Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Champion became the first rookie driver to claim a Late Model “King of the Road” title.

Monadnock: Alyssa Rivera & Kimmy Rivet Prepare for Upcoming Modified Season

Alyssa Rivera comes from a racing family, stating her dad has been in racing forever. He has had multiple drivers in that time including Everett Bingham, Dale Utton and Alyssa. Alyssa started driving for him in 2007 with a Strictly Stock at Twin State Speedway. She has also raced at Canaan Fair Speedway in five races that season winning one race, and with two third place finishes, ending up seventh in points. Alyssa said her biggest accomplishments for the 2007 season were at Twin State, where she won a total of 6 races, and had a total of 11 podium finishes. She was also awarded Rookie of the Year, Most Popular Driver and finished third in points. After 2007 they sold the Strictly Stock and bought a Modified but did not compete with that car until the 2013 season. Alyssa ran a couple different races in the Super Street division between 2007-13 but did not compete enough to say so.

2013 was a rough rookie season in the Modified division. It was her first full season back, competing against the best of the best. Alyssa finished first in one heat race and qualified for more than half of the races. Alyssa lost Rookie of the Year by 10 points and still finished 10th in points for the season.

The Rivera Racing Team is happy to announce they are getting a brand new Modified for the 2014 season. The new car is being assembled by the great guys at Barnard Race Cars out of Southampton, Massachusetts.

Darland Dodges Trouble to Win 73rd “Turkey Night Grand Prix”

Perris, California — Dave Darland added to his legacy and joined select company in Thursday night’s 73rd “Turkey Night Grand Prix” at Perris Auto Speedway. The Lincoln, Indiana veteran avoided a late-race mishap for leader Damion Gardner to win the 98-lap classic and join Mel Kenyon and Stan Fox as the only drivers to win the Thanksgiving race on both dirt and pavement.

Darland took the lead a lap after halfway but appeared to be headed for a runner-up finish until Gardner lost a left-rear wheel on lap 95. He maneuvered the final four circuits unchallenged and won by .823-seconds in the Keith Ford-owned King Racing Products – A&A Precision Machine #73 Ellis/Fontana.

“It was definitely a roller-coaster race. Gardner was definitely strong, and it looked like he had it won. We were lucky to get past him when he broke and it was the break we needed. It’s great to win this race on dirt after winning it before on pavement. I’ve had a great time running for Keith & Josh Ford and their crew chief Jimmy May, so I’m happy to get them their first Turkey Night win. This place has been pretty good to me,” Darland said.

ISMA Returns to Oxford Plains in 2014 with the Bentley Warren Classic 75

Oswego, NY — A recent meeting between Oxford Plains Speedway and ISMA president Howie Lane has solidified plans for the 2014 ISMA return to that Oxford, Maine 3/8ths mile oval after six years absence.

It was announced that the race, which is slated for Friday, June 20, 2014, would be hereafter named the Bentley Warren Classic 75. The legendary New England racer, known from coast to coast and north of the border, who resides in Kennebunkport and owns the Bentley’s Saloon there, will be Grand Marshal of the event.

ISMA’s history at Oxford Plains goes back to August 19, 2000 when Nokie Fornoro won the inaugural sanctioned 75-lap event there. In 2001 Fremont, NH’s Mike Ordway picked up the 100-lapper at the famed Maine speedway. Ordway went on to repeat his victory in 2002.

In 2003 a new face appeared in the ISMA victory lane circle at Oxford when young Bobby Santos III earned his first-ever supermodified win in the Howie Lane 97. It was just the beginning for that Franklin, Mass. driver who would go on to many more wins, championships and accolades over the following ten years and is still looking for more.

The Rowley Rocket, Chris Perley, who spent part of his childhood in Maine, broke into the record books on July 16, 2004 at Oxford by taking a 75-lapper. After skipping a couple years of winged supermodified competition with ISMA, the Oxford management brought back the powerful supers in August of 2007, and Perley notched a second Oxford win adding to his eventual 10-win season that year. That 75-lap event would be the last of the decade for the ISMA group at Oxford due to scheduling conflicts and various other reasons.

As the 2014 ISMA schedule was unfolding, the new Oxford Plains owners were right there in line to request a spot on that ISMA schedule and to promptly establish a Classic to honor one of Maine’s famous residents, Bentley Warren.

The Bentley Warren Classic will be sponsored in part by Locke Crane Service of New Hampshire, and more backers may come onboard before the green unfurls on that race.

Oxford Plains Speedway President, Tom Mayberry is pleased to announce that the ISMA Supermodifieds will return to Oxford Plains Speedway in 2014 after several years’ absence. The ISMA Supers will be in action on Friday night, June 20, 2014. Locke Crane Service will sponsor the event.

“We are so excited to have the ISMA organization back with us here at OPS,” stated Oxford Plains President Mayberry. “These super sleek machines are so lightening quick, that they will keep the fans on the edge of their seats for entire 75 lap event. The “Winged Warriors” are known for their two and three wide racing, and Oxford Plains Speedway’s racing surface will be the perfect place for them to perform at their finest!”

Those fans who purchase the recently released Wicked Fast, Racing Through Life with Bentley Warren, written with Bones Bourcier, will definitely want to be on hand for the Classic to get the book autographed!

Further information on this inevitable historic racing event at Oxford Plains, will be forthcoming as the season draws closer in 2014.

Check out for further information or call the track hotline at 207-539-8865.

‘Rumble’ to salute injured Stewart

Fedorcak & Cicconi to Drive for Tony Stewart

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – He’s still getting around on a motorized scooter, not a race car, but his badly broken right leg won’t keep Tony Stewart away from the “Rumble in Fort Wayne” indoor midget races.

The three-time NASCAR champion, some two months away from returning to driving, will be honored with a “Salute to Tony Stewart” at the 16th annual holiday event on Friday, Dec. 27 and Saturday,  Dec. 28 at the Memorial Coliseum Expo Center.

The native Hoosier will enter two cars – Munchkin chassis for longtime indoor teammate Mike Fedorcak and East Coast standout Lou Cicconi Jr. – while also greeting fans and signing autographs both days.

Rumble organizer Tony Barhorst said the recognition is well-deserved for Stewart, who has won a record nine features on the 1/6-mile track and continues to compete regularly on short tracks despite his superstar status.

Whelen All-American Series Titles: Tribute To Fallen Crewman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A 63-year-old semi-retired NASCAR champion converted an encore part-time appearance into what could be the last full time season of his distinguished career this year. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship-winning reprise was in tribute to a fallen friend and crewman.

Mike Rowe of Turner, Maine rejoined the RJF Motorsports team and won the NASCAR Pro Series division track championship and state title racing at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. The combination previously won the track and state championships there in 2009. He repeated the state title in 2010.

Their part-time schedule for 2013 morphed into fulltime. The championships became a perfect homage to Jason Fowler – a former driver, crewman and son of Rowe’s car owner, Dickie Fowler, who was lost in an automobile accident in November 2012.

Church Dominates for Mason-Dixon Meltdown Win in PASS South Finale

LUCAMA, NC — Tyler Church led 120 of the 200 laps that made up the 8th Annual Mason Dixon Meltdown for a dominant win Saturday afternoon at Southern National Motorsports Park in the 2013 season finale for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models. The win marked a strong final third of the season that saw Church also claim his first career PASS South Super Late Model win back in September at Hickory Motor Speedway.

“I’ve always wanted to win somewhere other than Hickory and Tri-County, we’ve won up there quite a bit in the Limiteds, but finally we were able to win somewhere else,” said Church in victory lane. “It’s really not sunk in yet. This place is really cool and I can’t believe we were able to win the Meltdown.”

The afternoon began with Church just missing out on the track record as he claimed his first quick time in a PASS South Super Late Model with a lap of 97.337 miles per hour. It was obvious after the PASS South redraw that Church not only had speed, but he also had luck on his side, drawing pill number one to start from the pole for the Mason Dixon Meltdown.

Woody Pitkat, Adam Gray, Tony Membrino, Jr., Josh Wood, & Dave Secore, Jr. Honored as 2013 Stafford Speedway Track Champions

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway welcomed a guest list of over 500 people consisting of teams, drivers, sponsors, and employees this past Friday night, November 22 at Maneely’s in South Windsor to officially honor Woody Pitkat, Adam Gray, Tony Membrino, Jr., Josh Wood, And Dave Secore, Jr. as the 2013 Stafford Motor Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track champions.

With Stafford Motor Speedway broadcasters Matt Buckler and Joe Coss serving as the Masters of Ceremony, the 44th annual Stafford Motor Speedway NASCAR Champions Awards Ceremony not only honored the five track champions, they also recognized the top-20 points finishers from the SK Modified®, Late Model, SK Light, Limited Late Model, and DARE Stock divisions. Special awards that were presented during the evening’s festivities were Most Popular Driver Awards, SPAFCO Race Chassis & Parts Rookie of the Year, R.A.D. Automachine DARE Stock Rookie of the Year, and the UNOH Ultimate Mechanic of the Year Award.

The 2013 SK Modified® season saw Woody Pitkat record his first Stafford modified championship in an ultra-tight race with 2011 SK Modified® champion Ryan Preece. Preece was the big winner of the 2013 season, recording 8 trips to victory lane. But just as dominant as Preece was, he was also inconsistent in his finishes, which opened the door for Pitkat in the late stages of the 2013 season. Pitkat didn’t record his first win of the season until August 30th, but he won two consecutive races and finished in the top-5 in the final 2 races while an 18th place finish by Preece on September 13th was too much to overcome. Pitkat won the championship by the narrowest of margins, only 2 points or one position on the racetrack and for the season he recorded 2 wins, 12 top-5 and 14 top-10 finishes in 18 starts for an average finish of 6.1.
