Sargeant’s Next Step

Dalton Sargeant will compete in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 2015 for HScott Motorsports with Justin Marks. A newcomer to stock cars, Sargeant made 21 Late Model starts in North Carolina and Virginia this season.

“We’ve actually been talking to everyone at HScott Motorsports for a few months now,” Sargeant said. “They were aware of when we were racing Late Model stock cars and kept an eye out. From there, we had a few conversations, but it wasn’t until we started racing Super Late Models that they were really interested.

“After the Snowball Derby, and with some help from partners that we will be able to announce at a later date, we were able to put together a package for the 2015 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule. It’s really exciting to be able to compete with such a great race team and the people they have are second to none, six months ago I would’ve thought this opportunity was well out of reach, but very thankful they’re taking a chance and a gamble on me in 2015.”

Justin Bonsignore to Run Stafford SK Modifieds® in 2015 with Art Barry as Car Owner

Stafford Springs, CT — As number registrations continue to file in and the Stafford Motor Speedway NASCAR Whelen All-American Series rosters begin to take shape, the track’s premier SK Modified® division has just added another NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver for the 2015 season.  Reigning Valenti Modified Racing Series champion Justin Bonsignore will join the SK Modified® ranks behind the wheel of Art Barry’s #21 car and will race for the championship

“We’re going to try it every week,” said Barry.  “We’ve won 2 championships in the MRS and the plan is to start out, see what we can do, and see if we can find a sponsor along the way.  Justin wants to race at Stafford, I think the seat time will help him in other series at Stafford and it will be nice for me to come back home and race.”

“This is awesome, especially to be able to do it with Art and Ken Barry,” said Bonsignore.  “I’ve gotten to know them really well the last couple years and we have had a lot of success in the MRS series.  I think we were all looking to do something different this year, I’ve been wanting an SK deal at Stafford for a long time and it’s definitely a track that I’m looking to get some more seat time at.  The competition at Stafford is second to none, it’s like a tour race every Friday night, and we’re glad that we’re going to be part of it.  We’d like to be able to contend for the championship and I think we’ll be a really good team.  Weekly racing is a little different from Tour racing with the amount of tires and the handicapping system, so it’ll definitely be a challenge.  Stafford has the most competitive field in the Northeast but we’re hoping we can be in contention every week and hopefully win a couple of races.  I don’t see why we can’t be a contender.  I’m really excited, I want to get the season started already.  I like working with Art and Kenny and I think we’re going to have a good time.”

Vin Esposito Looking Forward to Racing for SPAFCO Rookie of the Year Honors in Stafford’s Late Model Division

Stafford Springs, CT — After racing in the Late Model ranks at Waterford Speedbowl for the past 9 seasons, Waterbury native Vin Esposito will make his first foray into Late Model competition at Stafford Motor Speedway for the 2015 season.  Esposito joins Richard Duranti and Stu Fearn as registered rookie drivers for the upcoming NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season and he is ready to try to win the SPAFCO Rookie of the Year award and the record $1,100 bonus that comes with winning the award.

“The last time I was a rookie was in 2005,” said Esposito.  “I don’t usually try to race for rookie status because if there’s a young kid that I’m racing against, I’d rather see them win because those awards don’t mean that much to me.  But with $1,100 on the line that changes my whole thinking.  When there’s that kind of dollars behind the Rookie of the Year award we’ll give it all we have to try to win the bonus.”

When the green flag comes out on the 2015 Late Model season during the 44th Annual NAPA Spring Sizzler on April 25-26, Esposito is hoping to avoid a repeat of his first appearance at Stafford behind the wheel of a Legend Car.

Stafford Motor Speedway SK Light Rookie Class Taking Shape for $1,000 R.A.D. Automachine & T/A Engines Bonus

Stafford Springs, CT — Just as Stafford Motor Speedway’s 2015 SK Modified® rookie crop is looking to be a great duel for Rookie of the Year honors, Stafford’s SK Light rookie class is also looking to be a blockbuster fight for the top rookie honors.  R.A.D. Automachine and T/A Engines are each putting up a $500 bonus for a record total of $1,000 that will go to the top rookie.

Jeremy Sorel was the top SK Light rookie in 2014 and not only was he the top rookie, but he was the third driver in the short history of the SK Light division at Stafford to win the championship as a rookie driver, joining Michael Gervias, Jr. and Matt Galko.  With the backgrounds and racing experience that each of the 2015 SK Light rookie class drivers possess, there could be a fourth rookie championship winner.

Out of the 7 rookie drivers signed up thus far for competition in 2015, Kyle Jette is the only driver who has had experience not only racing an SK Light Modified car, but racing at Stafford as well.   Jette came to Stafford towards the tail end of the 2014 season and he made four starts to preserve his rookie status for the 2015 season.  Jette posted 3 top-9 finishes in his four starts with a best finish of third.

Whelen Re-Enters K&N Series as Primary Sponsor for David Garbo Jr.

Garbo Will Pilot the #31 Whelen Car for Marsh Racing

CHARLOTTE, N.C.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–When Marsh Racing and longtime team sponsor Whelen Engineering Company, Inc. got the opportunity to put together a race team for 2015, they looked closely at the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Ted Marsh, owner of Marsh Racing, began searching for not only a championship-caliber driver, but someone he felt could also effectively represent the Whelen brand.

“It’s been a while since the Whelen #31 has been part of the K&N Pro Series”

The name of David Garbo Jr. was consistently at the top of his list and he ultimately went to Whelen Vice President of Motorsports, Phil Kurze, with his recommendation. “It’s been a while since the Whelen #31 has been part of the K&N Pro Series,” said Kurze. “With the talented David Garbo, Jr. as our pilot we are looking forward to a lot of excitement and great racing in a very competitive field!”

Marsh commented, “He’s a remarkable young man. We don’t know how he does it all so effectively at just 18 years old. He’s a national racing champion, a college freshman, a licensed private plane pilot, and he has an established charitable organization. We feel not only is he a talented and committed racer, but also someone who represents the future of the sport. We’re quite impressed.”

Keith Rocco Enters ACT American Racer Challenge

Rocco’s First ACT Event Will Be at New Smyrna Speedway

Waterbury, VT – Keith Rocco from Meriden, CT is a 2010 NASCAR National Champion, has three (3) NASCAR SK Modified championships at the Waterford Speedbowl, two (2) ACT type Late Model Championships at the Speedbowl, and too numerous feature event wins in the heart of Modified country, Connecticut, to list. His next challenge is to head to the New Smyrna World Series of Asphalt Racing and enter the American Canadian Tour (ACT) American Racer Challenge Series on Monday and Tuesday, February 16-17, 2015.

“My Late Model car owner, Scott Fern (Wilbraham, MA) is a big fan of ACT Late Model racing. That is how I got started in the fender type cars a few years ago. We have had a pretty busy modified schedule chasing NASCAR points for the past few years, although we tried to get to a couple ACT shows, but weather and other issues kind of put that on the back burner. This mid-winter trip to Florida and the American Racer Challenge Cup is going to be a great break. We are looking forward to our first ACT event,” said Rocco.

Rocco has won some races in the Modified division at New Smyrna over the years, but he will face a new challenge with veteran tour drivers from both the ACT US and ACT Quebec organizations. Both 2014 defending champions, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. (Pole), Hudson, NH and Alex Labbe, St-Albert, QC have experience at New Smyrna Speedway. There will be plenty of competition from the growing list of drivers who have entered. Former ACT Champions Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Dover, NH and Donald Theetge from Quebec City will join Pole and Labbe. Between them they have six (6) ACT Championships.

Rookie Heywood Aces Airborne Test

Earns Track Title, National Rookie Of The Year

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It’s not every day that a competitor credits a racing accident as one of the key to his season’s success, but that is the case in 2014 for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Rookie of the Year Nick Heywood.

Heywood totaled his car in the fourth feature of the season in the J&S Steel Sportsman Modified division at Airborne Park Speedway. It could have been a crucial blow for the two-time-defending track champ, but instead turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

“I don’t know if we found something in the car that wasn’t quite right when we tore it all apart and rebuilt it or what, but after that it was a rocket ship the rest of the year,” Heywood said.

New Beginning for Lowinski-Loh

John Lowinski-Loh, Jr. of Milford, MA will make his first laps at Daytona International Speedway Friday during a two-day for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Lowinski-Loh primary goal is to get a superspeedway license, to be able to race at tracks over two miles, including the season opener at Daytona in February.

There will be a dual-purpose for rookie drivers at the 2.5 mile tri-oval: learning the track and the draft. Drafting takes on additional importance as ARCA will use group qualifying similar to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The team is already working on getting a pack of cars together at the test.

“It’s going to be crucial … we’re going to get comfortable with the car on the racetrack and then everyone is going to go into a group session and try the drafting for qualifying because we’re going to try to make our car really, really good, make sure it pulls up good to other cars. And make sure everything’s key for that because starting at the back of the field at Daytona never ends up usually good for anybody.”
