Sen. Blumenthal to start Saturday’s Lime Rock Park Northeast Grand Prix

LAKEVILLE, Conn. (July 24) – Richard Blumenthal, the senior United States Senator from Connecticut, today confirmed he’ll be the Grand Marshal for Saturday’s Northeast Grand Prix for the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship at Lime Rock Park.

The Northeast Grand Prix, a two-hour, 40-minute sports car and prototype race, starts at 3:15 p.m. Eastern. The pre-race ceremonies begin at 2:58 p.m.

The senator will say some words from the grid on the Sam Posey front straight prior to issuing the command for drivers to start their engines.

From 1977 to 1981, Richard Blumenthal was United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut. He served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1984 to 1987, and was elected state Attorney General in 1990, serving 20 years. Blumenthal announced his 2010 run for U.S. Senate after incumbent Chris Dodd announced his retirement. Facing Linda McMahon in the general election, Blumenthal won with 55 percent of the vote. On January 5, 2011, Blumenthal was sworn in and took seats on the Senate Armed Services; Judiciary; Aging; and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committees. He became the senior senator after the retirement of Joe Lieberman.
