Coughlin Ridin’ Upfront at Kansas, Knocking on Door of Top 10

KANSAS CITY, KS – Cody Coughlin was knocking on the door of his first top-10 finish in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series during Friday night’s Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway, but a transmission issue left Coughlin with a 26th-place finish.

Near the end of a caution-filled first segment, the 21-year-old driver found himself just outside of the top 10 on a restart. When the green flag waved Coughlin tried to shift from second gear to third gear, but the shifter wouldn’t budge.

Coughlin brought his No. 13 JEGS.com/RIDE TV ThorSport Racing Toyota Tundra to the garage where his team quickly changed transmissions.

Coughlin Follows the Yellow Brick Road to Help Kids & Go Fast in Kansas

DELAWARE, OH – The long hiatus is finally at an end for Cody Coughlin and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Coughlin will get back behind the wheel of his JEGS.com/RIDE TV No. 13 Toyota Tundra for ThorSport Racing for the first time in five weeks this Friday (May 12) in the Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway.

For just the second time this season Coughlin is racing at a track that he’s already been to.  The only other time that happened was at the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.  While Coughlin’s first race at Kansas last year didn’t exactly go according to plan, the 21-year-old driver said already having laps under his belt helps his confidence a lot heading into this weekend.

“I’m excited to head to Kansas this weekend,” said Coughlin.  “I’m glad that when I get there I don’t have to spend any time in practice trying to learn the line of the track.  I already know that from last year.  Now I can just work with Michael (Shelton, crew chief) to dial in our Toyota Tundra for the race.”

Coughlin Goes From Back to Front Twice at Anderson

ANDERSON, IN – The words “give up” are certainly not in Cody Coughlin’s vocabulary. Coughlin came from the back of the field to the front of the field twice at Indiana’s Anderson Speedway.  A late-race crash took Coughlin out of contention out of the race after an unreal performance and relegated him to a 10th-place finish in the Koorsen Fire & Security 125 for the ARCA / CRA Super Series.

Coughlin qualified second overall in time trials and was slated to start sixth after the invert before he and his Team JEGS crew decided to pull the car out of the impound line to make last-minute adjustments.  That meant that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver for ThorSport Racing would have to start at the back of the field.

The 21-year-old driver carefully and methodically worked his way from the 14th starting position to the front of the field. By lap 80 Coughlin was in third and knocking on the door of the top two.

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series
Richmond Winner Logano Goes For Second Straight ‘Dega Victory

Joey Logano, 26, won his first race of the season Sunday at Richmond in his 300th career start. He’ll attempt to win again in his 301st start in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway (2 p.m. ET on FOX, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio) – a track where he won the latest race last fall.

Logano has taken the checkered flag in the last two fall races at Talladega, but claims only two top-10 finishes at the 2.66-mile behemoth in the spring (ninth in 2009 and 10th in 2011; both with Joe Gibbs Racing). Overall the No. 22 Team Penske driver has two wins, four top fives, six top 10s and an 18.7 average finish in 16 starts at Talladega.

The Middletown, Connecticut, native’s win at Richmond put an exclamation point on his strong start to the season.  He has only finished outside the top six once in the first nine races – a 31st-place showing at Phoenix where he led a season-high 82 laps and won the first stage before wrecking out of the race.

Coughlin Going for Two-In-A-Row in Return to Roots at Toledo

COLUMBUS, OHIO – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Cody Coughlin is returning to his racing roots on Saturday at Ohio’s Toledo Speedway. Coughlin, the reigning ARCA/CRA Super Series champion, will step into his No. 1 JEGS.com Super Late Model for the first time this season at the Spring 200 for the ARCA/CRA Super Series.

The 21-year-old Ohio native returns as the defending winner of the event. Coughlin graced victory lane in the 100-lap Super Late Model portion of the Spring 200 one year ago at Toledo. That’s a big reason why Coughlin has decided to give up an off weekend from his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule to go racing at Toledo.

“I’m super excited to get back in my Late Model,” said Coughlin, a Joe Gibbs Racing Development Driver. “Toledo was one of my favorite tracks even before I won there last year.”

“I wish I could return to the No. 88 team this season,” Earnhardt said. “To say I’m disappointed doesn’t begin to describe how I feel, but I know this is the right thing for my long-term health and career. I’m 100 percent focused on my recovery, and I will continue to follow everything the doctors tell me. They’re seeing good progress in my test results, and I’m feeling that progress physically. The Race
This is Coughlin’s fourth Super Late Model start of the season, and first since his victory at Toledo Speedway in April.

The high-banked Anderson Speedway fits right in line with Coughlin’s driving style. Even though it’s only a quarter-mile in distance, it’s fast and it’s banked, and Coughlin loves both of those aspects. The 20 year-old has seen success at Anderson in the past when he scored a strong top-10 finish there en route to his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship in 2013.

The Last Race
Cody Coughlin was victorious in April at a prestigious Super Late Model event at Toledo Speedway in Ohio. The Joe Gibbs Racing Development driver, started third, took the lead on lap 65 and led the remainder of the race to score the victory in the ARCA / CRA Super Series. The 20 year-old is the current series point leader.
