Phil’s Propane Bonus for Seekonk LMs in Aug. 4 ACT Race

philspropane.jpgSeekonk, MA — Phil Viveiros, the proprietor of the Tiverton, RI based Phil’s Propane, firm, has added a $1,000 bonus to be divided among the three highest finishing Seekonk cars, that is, any Seekonk Late Model that has accumulated championship points in 2007.  The highest finisher will claim a $500 bonus, with the second highest finisher earning an extra $300 and the third highest finisher pocketing an additional $200.  Cars purchasing the Goodyear tires for the ACT event will be allowed to use them in Seekonk Speedway Late Model events as well.

FAST FRIDAY HELP WANTED!!!!

In recent weeks, several new faces have offered their help at our weekly Fast Friday Series.  Our thanks to former SYRA car owner champion Dennis Hudon for his services this past Friday.  Unfortunately, illness and family commitments have caused some others to bow out.  Seekonk Speedway is currently looking for additional volunteers to work with our go-kart, Pure Stock, and SYRA divisions on Friday between the hours of 5:30 and 9:15 PM.  NO experience is necessary, and weekly attendance is not required- volunteers are welcome to make their own schedule.  All of us who work on the Fast Friday program do so on a voluntary basis to support our youth and entry-level divisions.  Volunteering can be anything from posting the lineups and finishes on the blackboard to handling tunnel or pit traffic, assisting with the caution flag on the go-kart track, distribution and collection of restrictor plates, scoring, etc.  A race reporter/writer is needed for Friday, August 3 as well as I will be unavailable.  Anyone wishing to learn more or to volunteer their time, please contact Lenny Ellis, David Alburn, or Todd Baptista by e-mail, phone, or at the track on a Friday or Saturday evening.  Your assistance is appreciated.

SATURDAY NIGHT POSITION AVAILABLE

Seekonk Speedway is also seeking an individual for a paid Saturday night position as an assistant handicapper.  This individual will work with the drivers and teams on a face-to-face basis, assist in preparing the starting lineups for heats and features, post finishing results and practice times, answer questions, and call competitors out for practice and to line up for heats and features.  The handicappers see little of the heat races but play a vital role in the operation of the Saturday night program.  If interested, please contact David Alburn or Lenny Ellis to apply or to obtain additional information.

TRAILER RACES

Trailer races have been added to the special events at the Sunday August 5 Demolition Derby event.  For additional information and or rules packages, please contact David Alburn at ssruleman@aol.com or (508)-336-9959 to leave a message.

TRUCK TIRES

A meeting with all Sport Truck competitors is forthcoming this Saturday.  In response to the negative feedback that we have received about the durability of the current American Racer tires, Seekonk Speedway will begin testing a new Hoosier brand racing tire in the division this weekend.  These tires have stiffer sidewalls, the ply is also stiffer, and the tread is similar to the Street Stock tires.  These tires will definitely last longer than the American Racer brand.  The initial testing of these tires is being done by the #10 Truck owned by Richard Sprague and will be driven by Lee Hayes.  This particular truck was approached for the test because it is not in the running for a points championship or even a top points finish, and because the owner and driver possess the experience and knowledge to be able to give the tire a true test and to communicate their findings with track officials.  The cost of these Hoosier tires is $5 more than the American Racer brand.  More information will be forthcoming.

OPEN WHEEL WEDNESDAY

Seekonk Speedway is working hard to reschedule our Open Wheel Wednesday event with the open competition Modified Madness, NEMA, and the Pro Four Modified Series events for another Wednesday date this summer.  Information will be provided as soon as a decision is made.  The previously rained out NEMA and Armed Forces Night events have been rescheduled for Saturday night, September 15.
