Robidoux, Mondeau, Ladyga Win In Fast Friday Series

Seekonk, MA — In the Fast Friday Series, Pure Stock rookie John A. Robidoux of Swansea, MA, Seekonk Youth Racing Association 750-restrictor plate division championship leader Brian Mondeau of Bridgewater, MA, and SYRA 600 first-year ace Nick Ladyga of Voluntown, CT earned their second feature wins of the 2007 season.

Robidoux, 52, started eighth in the 25-lap main, and had climbed to second by the second lap, trailing only outside polesitter Vinnie Pangelinan. Robidoux put the Sanford and Son Auto Parts #39 to the front of the pack the next time around and would lead all the way to the checkers. Fellow first-year pilot Bob Hinckley claimed third on the third circuit while John Frias, Carlos Silva, and Tom Blackwell went three wide for fourth. Veteran Mark Boisvert dove to the inside the next time around, making it four-wide, and came away with the position.

Point leader Bill Chouinard was bounced to the back of the pack in an early race incident but steadily worked his way forward. By lap 10, Robidoux and Hinckley were entrenched in first and second with Pangelinan, Boisvert, three-time winner Scott Cestodio, John Robidoux, Carlos Silva, and Chouinard comprising the balance of the top eight. Tom Blackwell was spun off turn four just as the crossed flag signal appeared, but the race went green to checker without need for a caution.

Boisvert took third on lap 13, and was followed into fourth by Cestodio two circuits later. Turning the fastest laps of the race, Chouinard closed in on Cestodio and Robidoux inside the final 10 laps. While battling with the point leaders for fourth, Robidoux’s #93 slammed the frontstretch concrete with two laps to go but kept on going without losing a lap.

At the finish, Robidoux won by 0.635 seconds over Bizarre Intentions teammate Hinckley, who scored a season-best second. Boisvert was third, followed by Chouinard who extended his lead in the standings over fifth place finisher Cestodio to 10 markers. Vinnie Pangelinan was sixth, followed by John Robidoux, Randy Moretti, John Frias, and Tom Blackwell.

In the SYRA 750 25-lap feature, 14 year-old Mondeau took over the lead in the point standings by putting the Grant’s Rentals #22 into Victory Lane for the second time this season. Four cautions slowed the initial laps, leaving previous race winner Brian Como, Jr., who entered the night atop the standings, in the pit area.

Dylan Estrella, Mondeau, and Jacob Swift crossed the line three-wide for the lead before Estrella took over the top spot. Mondeau soon rose to the lead, pacing the field from the sixth go-around on. Matthew Burke and Dylan Estrella swapped second over the next half-dozen laps while Kyle Kuchta gradually reeled in the top three. Kuchta took third on lap 19 while the top four remained nose to tail with Mondeau doing all he could to hold off the advances of Estrella. In the end, Brian prevailed by 0.393 seconds over Estrella to post the win. Burke was third with Stephen Gardiner fourth and Kyle Kuchta fifth.

In the 25-lap 600-plate feature, 10 year-old Nick Ladyga of Voluntown, CT earned his second consecutive win in the Suchocki and Son Construction #38. Four cautions slowed the initial four laps as various incidents involving previous race winners Casey Sanchez, Chris Igo, Derryck Anderson, Jr., and race leader Kaitlyn Donovan peppered the action. After contact from Sanchez sent Donovan around on lap 5, Ladyga and point leader Timmy Brown inherited the front row.

The pair dueled side-by-side for the lead before Ladyga’s Chevrolet won out. Directly behind them, Adam Swift and Casey Sanchez put on an equally spirited battle for third and fourth. The top four raced under a blanket into the second half of the event when Ladyga, Swift, Sanchez, and Brown fell into single file order, running nose to tail all the way to the finish. Ladyga finished first by 0.222 seconds over Swift, who posted a career-best second and earned the Ultra Flex Racing Products savings bond award. Sanchez was third, followed by Brown, who maintained a healthy point advantage, and rookie Ethan Souza, who was fifth in his first career start.

Positions six through ten went to David Hutchins, Jake Spillers, Jake Howes, Justin LaCasse, and Chris Igo.
