Cover Your Mistakes

When the things we place our trust in are suddenly taken away we find ourselves searching for an answer. We have a difficult time trusting again. We need to have something or someone who, no matter what, will never leave us or forsake us. Christ is the answer. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Have you ever wanted someone to accept you with all your flaws? Have you ever wished that people could look past all the things you didn’t do well to find the things you did do well? Have you ever wanted someone to love you just for who you are and not want to change you? We all do.

It’s Smooth Sailing for Garbarino & Co.

nwmt.jpgBob Garbarino’s main concern Saturday morning was getting his RV fixed.Sure, his crew and driver Donny Lia were at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway getting the car ready for the night’s Made In America Whelen 300. But Garbarino knew the work that was done in the shop long before the car hauler even arrived at the track was what was going to decide their fate. And that Lia was fully capable of putting that car in Victory Lane.

So Garbarino spent much of the day working to get the exhaust manifold leak corrected so that he and his wife, Joan, could drive back home after the race. They had taken the RV out to Mansfield (Ohio) for the previous race and spent the week between visiting friends and seeing the sights in West Virginia and Virginia.

Marilyn Angelillo Passes Away

nema.jpgMarilyn Angelillo was, officially, the Northeastern Midget Association’s secretary for many years. Unofficially, she was the club’s social director, points keeper, publicity agent, organizer, sounding board, problem solver and, most important, its conscienceMarilyn passed away Tuesday after a brave bout with cancer.

“Her contributions to our club over the years are many, far too many to count,” said NEMA President Mike Scrivani. “Saying she will be missed seems trite at this point, but Marilyn touched so many of us in positive ways. Whatever the problem, she was there for us. It is a sad time.”

ACTion News – Sept. 5

John Donahue spent all of Saturday’s practice sessions at Thunder Road switching back and forth between a Dale Shaw chassis he campaigns on the American-Canadian Tour, and a Lefthander car kept for Thursday nights at The Road. The Shaw car would start off well, then fade a tick, then pick back up. The Lefthander would do the same, but both cars were as fast on old tires as any car could be, and, according to Donahue, “very comfortable.” Late in the day, Donahue, team owner Kendall Roberts, the National Guard #26 team, and recently-added crew chief Jeff Laquerre collectively made the decision to race the Shaw car in Sunday’s 29th Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200, and to take a shot at the $6,000 ACTion Super Series winner’s purse.

On lap 94, Donahue and company started to look like geniuses. That’s when the Shaw car moved past polesitter and race leader Scott Payea for the third and final time, and began its march toward the victory.

Hammond Scores Big in Front of Hometown Crowd at Canaan Motorsports Complex

walthammondcanaan1.jpgCanaan, NH — A gorgeous Labor Day afternoon, greeted a good crowd of race fans at the Canaan Motorsports Complex in Canaan, New Hampshire, as the Pro All Star Series invaded the 1/3 mile Speedway with their PASS Outlaw Late Models, PASS Mods, PASS Pullen Industries Limited Sportsman, and a four cylinder open. Winners on the day included Walt Hammond, Jason Taylor, George Baldwin and Mark Childs Jr.

The Outlaw Late Models took center stage with a 100 lap main event. By virtue of his heat win, Mike Harnish grabbed the early lead, and held the field at bay til just past the half way point in the event. Alan Wilson and Walt Hammond were challenging on each restart, but never could quite get the jump on Harnish. On lap fifty-four, Harnish apparently missed a shift and fell deep into the field. Wilson was off like a rocket, when suddenly his car careened off the backstretch into the barrier, ending his day. A flat right front tire caused the mishap. This sent Hammond to the point, a position he wouldn’t relinquish for the remainder of the event. Hammond’s margin of victory was nearly a full straightaway. Following Hammond to the line were Jay Sands, Donnie Lashua, Jimmy Rosenfield and Mike Harnish. Heat checkers flew for Harnish, Wilson and Jimmy Renfrew.

Stoehr Breaks Into NEMA Victory Lane at Monadnock

gregstoehr1.jpgWinchester, NH — This season, Greg Stoehr of E. Bridgewater, MA, has been knocking on the door of victory lane. On Saturday night, he let himself in by winning the 25-lap feature event at Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH. Stoehr has posted several top finishes this season including runner-up finishes at both Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl. Mechanical woes stopped Stoehr in his tracks at what could have been a promising race at the Stafford Motor Speedway. Nothing could stand in Stoehr’s way at the fast quarter-miler as the veteran driver went on to capture his first victory since rejoining the Club full-time in 2005.

The Northeastern Midget Association only had four days turn around time after last Wednesday’s mid-week spectacular at Seekonk Speedway that was won by Lou Cicconi. Saturday’s event at Monadnock Speedway was rescheduled after rain forced the postponement of the event originally scheduled for June 9, 2007. With great efforts by all, Stoehr and the rest of the NEMA contingent were for up for the challenge.
