Rowes Have Won Both PASS 300s, But Not Without Having Earned It

Naples, ME — The upcoming PASS 400 weekend at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) will be the third installment of the event.  In just a short amount of time, the race has already developed an identity of its own and a reputation as one of the fall short track events in New England not to be missed.  From the Thursday night entry-level racing showdowns to the Sunday afternoon 300-lapper for the PASS North Super Late Models (the PASS 400 weekend also features a 100-lap feature for the PASS Outlaw Late Models]), there will be non-stop action throughout the weekend of September 22nd-24th.

“We’re entering our third year of the race and it’s building into a fall racing tradition,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry.  “The whole weekend is turning into a major event.  In the Wildcat/Strictly race, and the PASS Sportsmen race, we expect to see cars from all of the tracks around.  The Thursday night 50 lappers [for several entry-level classes of racecars] are attracting a lot of interest and the Super Late Model show will be big.  We expect to have around 40 entries with some of the best drivers in New England trying to win the race.”

Malone Earns Sunoco Mod Win at Thompson

Thompson, CT — During an exciting night of racing, the points battles continued to heat up at Thompson International Speedway on Thursday. Kerry Malone of Needham, MA, won a Sunoco Modified main event that shook up the point standings heading into the final event of the regular season next Thursday night, September 20, 2007. Mike O’Sullivan of Springfield, MA, padded his point lead with a Pro Stock feature victory while Keith DeSanctis of Monson, MA, by virtue of his Limited Sportsman victory, moved into the point lead in the division. Keeping in it the family, Tommy O’Sullivan added to the celebration by winning in the Late Model division. Unofficial O’Sullivan teammate Tim Sullivan of E. Windsor bested the TIS Modified field helping his championship hopes. Scott Michalski of South Killingly earned his first win of the 2007 season in the Mini Stocks.

Kerry Malone of Needham, MA saw it all en route to his third Sunoco Modified win of the season. He nearly spun, took the lead, and his car was suspected of leaking fluid. But in the end, Malone was dry all the way to the checkered flag.

For the second week in a row the points were shaken up atop the Sunoco Modified point standings. With his runner-up finish, Keith Rocco took over the points lead by 14 points over a tie for second between Tommy Cravenho and Woody Pitkat.

Race Season is Winding Down for Tim Jordan

Waterford, CT — As a race season moves along, a race team’s objectives for the season can evolve.  At the beginning of the 2007 season, Tim Jordan and his #47 team set out to defend their Late Model championship at Waterford Speedbowl (CT).  They were on their way to contending for the title after winning three straight races, but a string of bad luck dropped them back in the race slightly.  At that point, Jordan attempted to gain more touring experience by towing to races at Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) and Seekonk Speedway (MA).

Now, with just a few races to go before the racing season is up, Jordan is working to just make his racecar better.  The set-up of the #47 has been hard to fine tune since a mid-season wreck, but the Jordan Racing team is getting closer to figuring it out as evidenced by a third-place finish in last Saturday night’s race.

The team that was on the top of the list when I asked who to call was Germain Racing. Casella Waste Systems, my sponsor in the Busch East Series, was on board and we’re very happy to put this together for my Truck Series debut in the New Hampshire 200.”

Responding to Life’s Challenges

When we face challenges in life we need to remember that we don’t travel that road alone. Each one of us has to deal with challenges that push us beyond what we think we can take. At those times we need to remember that God is with us and will help us through. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Do you remember your parents using the line “this is for your own good.” It was usually used to motivate us to do something we really didn’t want to do. There were many things we had to do to grow up that we really didn’t want to do.

PASS South Ready For Another Return to Historic Hickory

Concord, NC — It goes without saying that Hickory Motor Speedway, located just East of the Blue Ridge Mountains in scenic North Carolina, is one of the most historic short tracks in all of racing.  NASCAR’s current Nextel Cup Series and Busch Series both raced at the track for years before both moved on to bigger tracks.

But Hickory is still making history with a number of series.  And in just two short years, the PASS South Super Late Model Series has started a history of its own at the .363-mile oval.  That history writing will continue when the series visits Hickory for the fourth time in just its second year of running on Saturday night, September 29th, for a 150-lap event.

Schedule Set for Sunday Conclusion of Sunoco Modified Mania

Thompson, CT — The completion of the Sunoco Modified Mania Program has been set for Sunday, September 23rd. Rain forced track officials to look for a date that was compatible for all concerned. Following lengthy discussions the day after the rain out, the new race day was set to be the afternoon of Sunday, September 23rd.

Four of the six-divisions in competition for Sunoco Modified Mania were able to complete their events. But, shortly after the True Value Modifieds hit the track, the skies opened, the rains came and everything was brought to a stop. That left the True Value Modifieds and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour ducking for cover and looking for a date to complete their portion of the Sunoco Modified Mania program.

Grandstands will open at 11:30 AM on Sunday, September 23rd. Racecars from these two divisions will be allowed to practice until 2 PM. The True Value Modified feature event will pick up with two laps complete at 2:15 PM and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will run their entire 150-lap main event at about 3:30 PM.

Justin Belfiore Takes His First All-Star Classic & Third Career ISMA Win

justinbelfiorestarclassic07.jpgEpping, NH – Ipswich, Mass. driver Justin Belfiore took a dominating win of the All-Star Classic Saturday night – a race he’d always dreamed of winning. He led the way after the first segment of the race, reformatted this year into two 75-lap segments. He then went on to dominate the second portion, especially after ISMA point leader Chris Perley had been eliminated late in the first race in a hard crash off the first turn. Justin acquired his third career ISMA-Wirtgen race by taking the prestigious Classic win and he also was able to give his young son Justin, a sweet birthday present to remember.

“I can’t believe it,” said Belfiore in victory lane. “The lap traffic was kind of tough. I’ve been doing this for a long time. I had a perfect car. My luck finally held out. I ran lean in practice and the team made it just right. I thought Chris was going to be tough there as the race went on. He and I were kind of swapping spots a couple times but then he got in that accident. I didn’t know if I had anyone to race with. He was the only one that was passing cars the way I was.

Angelillo was, officially, the Northeastern Midget Association’s secretary for many years. Unofficially, she was the club’s social director, points keeper, publicity agent, organizer, sounding board, problem solver and, most importantly, its conscience. Marilyn, along with husband Gene, and the Dumo’s Desire crew amassed 14 owner championships throughout the last three decades.
