From Politics to NASCAR, New Hampshire Hosts the Most Important “First Races” of 2008

From Politics to NASCAR, New Hampshire will be the host for three of the most important “first races” of 2008, and New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials are in the middle of all the action.

Tuesday, voters in the Granite State will head to the polls for the “First-In-The-Nation Presidential Primary” race. On June 29, New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) will host the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series LENOX Industrial Tools 301, the start of the “Race to the Chase” for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. September 14 at NHMS is highlighted by the SYLVANIA 300, which is the first race in the “Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup” Series Championship.

To celebrate this historic race season, New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials will offer the presidential candidates who receive the greatest number of votes, for their respective parties, in the Granite State Primary an incredible opportunity. The top Republican and Democratic vote getters Tuesday will be invited to participate as an honorary pace car driver at the 2008 NHMS NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event of their choice.

“We encourage all the race fans in New Hampshire to head to the polls to vote, ” said Jerry Gappens, Executive Vice President and General Manager at NHMS. “NASCAR fans have an incredible passion for not only their favorite sport, but for everything that this great country offers us. This includes the right to vote for the candidate of their choice. It’s only fitting that we invite the candidates that the people in our great state choose to join us for one of our great NASCAR weekends. Tuesday is an important race, but the two biggest races in this state will be June 29 and September 14. It will be the ultimate opportunity for this presidential candidate to show their leadership skills at the biggest sporting event in New England with more than 100,000 fans at each event!”

When asked about predication for Tuesday’s Primary, Gappens commented, “If Dale Earnhardt Jr. was on the ballot, I would have to give him the edge here, but he’s not, so it’s a wide-open race at the polls and on the track later this season.”

You can be a vital part of the historic 2008 New Hampshire “Race” season by voting on Tuesday, January 8, and by attending the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 on Sunday, June 29, and the SYLVANIA 300 on Sunday, September 14. Tickets for all NASCAR events are available online at www.nhms.com or by calling Guest Services at (603) 783-4931.
