Ryan Preece to Kick Off Busy 2008 Season at New Smyrna

Ryan Preece and the Preece Racing team of Kensington, Connecticut, have announced a busy schedule of events for the 2008 racing season. The talented teenager looks to build upon a successful rookie season in 2007 in the NASCAR Modified division. It will all start with the 42nd Annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida beginning on Friday, February 8.

Preece will be doing double duty at New Smyrna. He will be racing his family-owned #40 Modified in the NASCAR Tour Type Modified division, featuring such top drivers as defending New Smyrna champion Eric Beers, Ted Christopher, Jimmy Blewett, Chuck Hossfeld and Charlie Pasteryak. He will also pilot at Florida/IMCA Modified owned by his grandfather, Bob Judkins. Judkins is a legendary figure in Modified racing and a Hall of Fame member who now races at New Smyrna on a weekly basis.

“I’m really excited about racing at New Smyrna this year,” admits Ryan. “I drove the Modified here last year and gained a lot of experience. Last winter the track had just been repaved and was really slick, so I think it will be much more competitive this year. I’m really looking forward to driving for my grandfather, Bob Judkins. He knows so much about how to setup and drive a racecar, and these Florida Modifieds run a much narrower tire than the NASCAR Modifieds so you learn a lot about how to drive the racetrack. It should be a lot of fun.”

After New Smyrna, the Preece Racing team will begin preparing in earnest for the racing season back home. They will compete in a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, North Carolina on Sunday, March 22, as a final tune-up. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will launch their 16-event 2008 schedule at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut on April 6. The Preece team will run the full schedule. As his racing calendar allows Ryan will drive a limited number of races on the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA) schedule for Bertrand Motorsports and car owners Gil and Tim Bertrand of Massachusetts.

Preece Racing is proud to announce they have joined with the Racing Against Cancer Team for 2008. The Racing Against Cancer Program is a federally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to the raising of funds to cancer research, patient services, youth tobacco educational programs, and awareness. Since 1996, they have generated donations of over $583,000 for cancer-related charities and programs.

Preece Racing also wishes to welcome Mizzy Construction, Logan Steel, Nero Heating & Cooling, Mike’s Truck & Trailer and Transwaste Water Heaters as sponsors for 2008. It is shaping up to be a great season!
