Speedbowl a Strong Presence at SpeedwayEXPO

Waterford, CT — Allen Coates will be back in the #90 Late Model at Waterford Speedbowl this season. The three–time champion was one of several competitors dropping by the Speedbowl exhibit at last weekend’s Speedway Expo at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds in West Springfield, MA.

“We’ll miss the first couple of events due to a long-overdue family vacation, but we plan on being there every week after that,” says Coates. “This season we’re going to try and have a good time, kind of a low-pressure deal. Should it lead to another battle for the title that’s fine. If not, that’s OK with us also.”

The Speedbowl kicks-off its 58th consecutive campaign with the 12th annual Budweiser Modified Nationals on April 12-13. Highlighted by the lucrative SK-150, the weekend also includes the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Models, Sportsman, and Mini Stocks. The NEMA Midgets, Legends, AllStar Race Trucks, Pro4 Modifieds, and Allison Legacy Cars are part of a busy agenda as well.

Defending Late Model champion Bruce Thomas Jr. is geared-up for a title defense, and is also looking forward to the June 7 ACT event. “I’m really excited about the ACT show. We usually do well in the long races, and it’ll give us a chance to really show our stuff. It’s always a competitive field and we really like the series. It’s also a great pay-off for our division,” he says.

Veteran Larry Goss will also return, again running a two-car operation with Ed Reed at the controls of the second ride. Goss is also looking forward to the ACT invasion.

Ron Yuhas will be pulling double-duty, wheeling the SK of Mike Murphy as well as the Late Model of Mike Sangermano. He states that while he’s driven two divisions in one night in the past, it was never a regular thing. “I think I’ll be able to handle it without any problems, and I’m really looking forward to it,” said Yuhas, a Whelen Modified Tour competitor the past couple of years. “Getting back to the Speedbowl on a regular basis is important to me. It is my home track.”
