Todd Stone a winner at Devil’s Bowl

WEST HAVEN, VT – Todd Stone picked up his first win of the season Sunday night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and his crew earned a Good Samaritan award, as well.

Stone came out of his second-row starting position and dominated the 30-lap feature to record his 13th career victory in the double-point Spring Championships at the Vermont track, but the story of the night was the work that the G. Stone Motors crew did to help defending track champion Ken Tremont Jr.

Tremont’s car was heavily damaged in a heat-race accident, but the Stone gang chipped in and got Tremont ready for the feature, putting him in the last row of the 22-car field.

While Stone was setting a quick pace up front, cranking out sub-18-second laps, Tremont was on the charge from the rear.

Tremont, who had dropped out of the opening night feature last week with a broken axle, got around Ray Hoard for second with two laps to go, and publicly thanked the G. Stone crew for their help after the race.

Hoard completed his strong run to finish third, with Tim Laduc fourth and Rob Langevin, a regular in the sportsman division at Albany-Saratoga Speedway, fifth.

Jeff Washburn and Fred Little put on a crowd-pleasing show in the 20-lap pro-street stock feature, with Washburn hitting the finish line 0.386 seconds ahead of Little to nail down his first win of the season.

Washburn and Walt Brownell Jr. provided the early excitement, but Little, who started seventh, got around Brownell for second on lap 14 and put some heavy heat on Washburn, who refused to yield the lead. Brownell was a car length back in third at the finish.

Don Miller came off the front row and led flag-to-flag to pick up the victory in the 20-lap budget sportsman feature. Rookie Kevin Chaffee, who started seventh, got up for second, with Frank Hoard III in third place.

Joey Trudeau held off Kevin Elliot to get the win in the limited division, Justin Comes (six-cylinder) and Jason Cram (four-cylinder) were the mini-stock winners and George Foster was first under the checkered flag in the Duke stock feature.

Devil’s Bowl will return to action on Sunday night, June 8, with all divisions in action. Racing will also include the first enduro of the season. The first green flag will fall at 5:45 p.m.
