Thompson Modifieds Take Center Stage This Thursday

Thompson, CT –Thompson Modifieds will be in the spotlight this Thursday night when they meet the challenge of their extra distance race for the ’08 season. Thompson International Speedway’s newest division will race twenty five laps in the longest race of the year for these open wheel race cars.

“This division gets stronger with each passing year,” said track owner and promoter, Don Hoenig. “We are very pleased with the progress of the Thompson Modified division and their racing has been outstanding. We are all looking forward to this extra distance race,” stated Hoenig.

The Thompson Modifieds have competed in four races this season and there have been three different winners. Icebreaker weekend in April saw Glenn Boss take the honors. Opening night of Thursday Night Thompson Thunder (TNTT) had R. J. Marcotte in victory lane. The past two TNTT events have been won by Tim Sullivan.

The division’s points standings have Boss at the top with the 2007 title holder, Kurt Vigeant, in second. Shane Michalski holds down third and is followed by Marcotte and Richie Ferreira.

The competition in the Thompson Modified division is fierce. Since all cars in this division are mechanically identical, any difference in performance comes from the set up of the car and the talent of the driver.

Joining the Thompson Modifieds will the five remaining divisions in Thompson’s “Super Six.” Leading that list will be the exciting Sunoco Modifieds. This talent-laden division has been thrilling fans all season long. Add the ultra-fast Pro Stocks, Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Mini Stocks and an excitement filled evening is guaranteed. Thursday night, July 3rd,  Thompson’s TNTT will add the mighty NEMA midgets to the holiday line up.
