NEMA Heads to Thompson

Thompson, CT — Showing three winners in four races to date, the Northeastern Midget Association moves to Thompson International Speedway Thursday night. A 30-lap challenge awaits the winged warriors at Thompson, clearly the fastest circuit on the 2008 NEMA agenda.

Randy Cabral, with two wins and two seconds, takes the point lead to Thompson. The popular Cabral, who drives the Bertrand family #47, is on the verge of a couple of milestones. He is currently tied with Joey Coy, Mike Favulli and Al Pillion, all Hall of Famers, on the all-time NEMA win list. All have 15.

Joey Payne Jr. (Angelillo #45) and Bobby Santos III (Santos 98) will also be looking to return to Victory Lane. Santos posted a most impressive win last Friday at Lee USA. Both Payne and Santos have tasted Thompson victory in the past. Nokie Fornoro (Jarett #4), who has four, and Greg Stoehr (Stoehr #29) are the other active NEMA drivers with wins at Thompson

Five of Cabral’s wins have come at Thompson, one behind the circuit’s all-time NEMA winner Johnny Mann. Payne has some added incentive as well. He and Jeff Horn, the latter expected to make his season debut at Thompson, can hit the magic 20 mark on the all-time NEMA win list.

That first Thompson victory is plenty of incentive for a group that includes Jeremy Frankoski, (Seamon #63), Erica Santos (Breault #44) and Adam Cantor (Cantor Racing #7ny). Frankoski had an impressive run at Lee.
