Chouinard Highlights Mid-Summer Thrill Show List of Winners

Seekonk, MA — On Sunday afternoon, thousands of fans poured into Seekonk Speedway to witness another fun filled evening of thrills and spills. On tap were the ever popular Spectator Drags which started with over 55 cars. One by one, they dropped off, spun out, crashed, or just plain got beat. When it was almost over, the Independence Day champ Jose Rodrigues found his 86 Corvette losing control on the final lap, allowing the 94 Camaro of fellow Pawtucket native Al Amarantes to pick up the win. Nick Pereira of Cumberland finished third after brushing his 88 Nissan 300ZX against the wall coming down for the checkered flag in the semi-final.

When the Pure Stocks hit the speedway, the fans were anticipating another barn burner. It was anything but predictable. Tom Blackwell of Taunton was running toward the front when he spun his Buick on lap 6. He was third at the time.

The second caution came out on lap 9, when second place driver Scott Cestodio spun, and John Robideaux of Swansea got involved. Bill Chouinard, winner of the past Sunday event, and 3 additional races this season had already worked his way to the top of the leader board. By Lap 15, Randy Moretti was trying to squeeze his way into the lead, and with additional restarts on lap 16 and 17, he had his opportunities. But he came up short, as Bill Chouinard put his Capco Steel Monte Carlo in Victory Lane for the fourth time this season. Moretti held on for second, with Bob Hinckley, Nick Uhrig and Tom Blackwell rounding out the top five.

Iron Warrior and Black Stallion were on hand, as they destroyed several cars lined up around the infield, including a motorhome. All was well until Iron Warrior broke a transmission line and caught fire. Officials were able to get the fire out before serious damage was done to the high horsepower monster truck. There were also motorcycle stuns done to open the show.

During one intermission, the powerful rocket powered ATV was on hand, and lit up the speedway in an amazing power display.

There were two enduro events, with some great action in both of them. Randy Lavasseur and Matt Runyon were winners in those events, while Derek Carvalho picked up the win in the Enduro Drags. The rules on this event are simple. It is set up just like the one on one Spectator Drags, but with more cars, and contact the name of the game.

In Figure-Eight action, Bob Luongo was back in the groove as he bested over 20 cars for the win.

When it was all said and done, Chris Taylor of Whitman was the survivor of the Demolition Derby, which saw a spirited battle between he and Ben Goode and Christian Leal.

The final Sunday Thrill Show is slated for Sunday, September 1, with a post time of 5pm. Be sure to print your tickets early from our website, www.seekonkspeedway.com, and save time by avoiding the long lines.
