Super Modified News Web Site to Sponsor New ISMA Award in 2009

Oswego, NY — Chris Porter from SuperRacingNews.com and the International Super Modified Association (ISMA) have come together to offer a new award for ISMA racers in 2009. The SuperRacingNews.com Up and Comer Award will be given to the top finisher in an ISMA feature who has never won an ISMA-sanctioned main event. The award will be up for grabs at every 2009 ISMA event, beginning with the series opener May 23 at Connecticut’s Waterford Speedbowl.SuperRacingNews.com, contact Chris Porter at 315-529-7541 or visit the Web site.

Each feature event’s Up and Comer will be awarded an additional $50 to the regular purse prize. While realizing the award isn’t a vast amount of money, Porter saw the opportunity as one to help support the hardworking racers who are yet to win their first feature in America’s premier super modified touring series.

“Of course, Oswego has had this award for many years and I thought it was time ISMA offered it, so it was a good fit,” said Porter. “I want to give back to the racers, and I know it’s not much, but hopefully this helps. With the Up and Comer award, the recipients should be fairly diverse and it will be a little boost to the racers who have good runs but haven’t won a feature. In a way, it’s like helping out the little guys, who I feel are just as important to the sport as the top winners.”

Some of the top series regulars who are yet to win an ISMA feature include Mike Lichty, Mark Sammut, Jeff Holbrook, Vern Romanoski and Jeffrey Abold. Those drivers and more are expected to vie for the Up and Comer Award throughout the ’09 season.
