NEAR Hall of Fame Process Begins

The process whereby an individual earns entry into the New England Auto Racers Hall of Fame has begun. It begins with the nominating form that is now available on the New England Antique Racer’s website www.near1.com.

The 12th NEAR Hall of Fame Induction Banquet will be Sunday Jan. 29, 2010 at the LaRenaissance Banquet Hall in East Windsor, CT.

All nominations – last year there were over 100 – are presented to the “selection committee” which reduces the number to 16. Eight “inductees” are then selected by a vote that includes both the selection committee and members of the Hall of Fame. The selection committee will meet in May. The selection committee consists of some of the most respected racing historians and journalists in New England.

“Last year we were very impressed with the number of nominations we received,” continued Cohen. “Some of them, of course, wound up being inducted. I can’t stress enough the importance of being thorough when filling out the form.” “Even as knowledgeable as those on the selection committee are, it is impossible to remember the accomplishments of all those that participated in auto racing throughout the history of New England Motor Sports.” modman181@comcast.net.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2010 induction ceremonies is Friday May 22, 2009.
